The Hercules and Sumatra males were seen with one of the Giraffe pride lionesses at Walkers River Camp.

Tanda Tula update

Even our lions showed up again this week, with the cubs in tow!  The week started off with us tracking down two of the Sark Breakaway Pride members close to Nkhari.  Despite having been away for ages, the next day the Nharhu male pitched up in the same area and set about searching for the intruding lions, but without luck.  This was because the two Sark lions had headed north of our concession and joined two Western Pride females on a dead giraffe carcass.  After a few days they did return to the area, but only because the Nharhu males had picked up on the giraffe carcass and chased them off.   Frtunately the Nharhu males made an instant return to the south and we were able to track them down to the rest of the River Pride that day.

We found the adult lionesses early in the week, but this was the first time we had seen them with their cubs in a couple of weeks.  The cubs are getting much bigger now, but that being said, they were looking quite under-nourished.  The mothers had eaten earlier in the week, but with the general game being so scarce in that part of their range at the moment, it is not a surprise to see them looking a little hungry.  We are hoping that this need for food will push them deeper into our concession where the general game really picked up this week.

Avoca pride is back at Shindzela

Avoca pride watching some buffalo. They did not catch one and went on a walk about. Followed their tracks the following morning and they covered about 12 km. Did not find them that morning but followed fresh tracks the following morning and located them  about 2 km further. Saw them for a few minutes. They diappeared again for 2 days and this morning they were lying in front of our lodge. All 9 in fairly good condition.

Monwana male

Young Male lion spotted to the north east of us. Was alone but completely relaxed when I approached him.

OK, so I see it is the same male which was seen with Birmingham young male (by the big scar on the right side of his nose) so apparantly it is not a Monwana male, but some new male in the region. Where however came assumption that it is Torchwood male?  I do not see anythink from this male that matches with this new male. There photos of Torchwood male posted 24 of May:

Its 100% Torchwood male, whiskers, scars, ear scars and black nose patches match .. That scar on his right nose is new scar, he still didn't have it on older photos..

Our guests were treated to a wonderful lion sighting, with the Vuyela coalition (Five males) seen on a zebra kill with four females!
