Kenya for example ... but does anyone know of any good conservation groups that are combating this problem there? thx It depends on the Park, Kenya is a very large Tourist attraction and thus will have strong protection for said parks. It's neighbor, Tanzania is the same. Both countries combined hold most of the Lion population in all of Africa, poaching and villager caused deaths of course occur, but they aren't rampant in most of the protected parks within those countries. He's thick. Must have a plentiful food source, unlike some lions in other parts of Africa, who deal with migratory herds and drought. Nice find RE: Lions in West-Africa - Lycaon - 01-09-2019 A impressive male . Credits to oebenin

RE: Lions in West-Africa - jordi6927 - 01-17-2019 Are the lions in west Africa making a come back with their total numbers? Are they being protected more? thanks RE: Lions in West-Africa - Lycaon - 01-17-2019 @jordi6927 Lions in west africa are still in need of more protection , but pendjari national park and zakouma national park are receiving more funds . with these two parks being their primary strongholds. Though lions in senegal and other west african nations are not getting much protection Cheers RE: Lions in West-Africa - Spalea - 01-18-2019 @Lycaon: Your photos: especially at #22 and #23. I read this morning on a french site about the fauna in Benin that Pendjari park wasn't well protected, to such an extant that they didn't know more if there was still some lions in this park. I hope it's exaggerated. And if we wanted to be sure to see some lions it would be worth better to go into the "W national park" overlapping three countries aeras : Benin, Niger and Burkina Faso. RE: Lions in West-Africa - Lycaon - 01-18-2019 (01-18-2019, 12:55 AM)Spalea Wrote: @Lycaon: That is a complete exaggeration as pendjari np has a healthy lion population, and it is not to difficult to see them theer. African parks has started work there recently. This complex is two and half times the size of Yellowstone National Park. Pendjari retains the largest wildlife population in the WAP complex, including its population of about 70-100 lions; the park could hold approximately 400-500 lions given adequate law enforcement and management. African Parks has signed a contract to assume management of the park. The Lion Recovery Fund has granted funding for increasing law enforcement in the complex, for understanding lion population sizes and movements, and for appraising the impact of trophy hunting on lions in the area. The LRF’s grant will unlock matching funding from the Wyss Foundation." https://www.lionrecoveryfund.org/project/securing-the-stronghold-of-the-west-african-lion/ |
