RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Pckts - 11-16-2016 Here is asiatics old range as you can see, the furthest borders may cross over but I'd bet that the forests begin to become more dense and thus becomes more of the Tigers preferred habitat. "Up until the 17th century, Asiatic lions were found as far west as Palestine and throughout Arabia, Persia and Northern India. The spread of firearms and indiscriminate hunting led to their extinction in most of these areas. By the end of the 1800s only a small population remained in Junagadh province on India’s west coast." ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/indias-wandering-lions-asiatic-lion-fact-sheet/14129/ RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Vinay - 11-16-2016 (11-16-2016, 11:04 PM)Pckts Wrote: Maybe this is true and maybe its not but that doesn't change the fact that as long as Humans have been able to record information and pass it down, there are no known images or stories of Lions and Tigers overlapping habitat other than one outrageous claim. Are you kidding?? .... Asiatic lions were WORSHIPED like Gods in ancient Egyptian/Persian/Hindu cultures (Tigers are always bad and wild) for 1000's of years.Even Bible has many versus about Asiatic Lions. Asiatic lives in a pride and Bengals are solitary, so i don't think any problem in their peaceful coexistence.Already said, it will take 20+ years minimum. @sanjay am from south not gujju. You want me to copy past links!! btw See @Pckts links 15yr old data (350 lions) even after i clearly provides him data with images, still he hanging on with some old journals. You seems to have problem with every data and scientific facts and represent your sentences as whole and sole universal truth even without any solid proof. Africans lions fights are most probably fun fights, i rarely saw serious injury marks on them unlike Asiatic. This sentence of your make me feel that you are stating things out of blind without even thinking twice. I know you belong to Gujrat and hence you have an natural inclination towards Asiatic lions but that does not mean you start putting your feeling and imagination as a final word in all over the forum. Stop doing this or at least add in your sentence that it is your personal thoughts. And this is my request to you, first time. Please... Asiatic and African Lions have been worshiped like Gods, Same with Tigers, Dragons, Birds, Half man/ Half Animal creatures, etc. What does that have to do with anything we are discussing? Where have you seen accounts of interactions between Asiatic Lions and Bengal Tigers? Any eye witness accounts, Hunting accounts, Researchers accounts, accounts in history, etc? RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Tshokwane - 11-20-2016 Credfits to Arif Junach. MAULANA PASSES AWAY One of the longest surviving lions of Gir, nicknamed "Maulana" because of his very "friendly" behavior towards people, passed away on 17th November 2016. He was around seventeen years, which could be unique record for a wild lion. Maulana and his brother "Kamlesh" (or Pattavalo, as he was radio collared), ruled vast territory for several years, fought grueling battles to protect many prides in their area. We were worried about old aged Maulana, when Kamlesh passed away before a couple of years. However, it was a pleasant surprise to see that new males, who had taken his territory, did allow him there for quite some time. Later, he changed his territory and was seen around Talala revenue ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author

RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - GrizzlyClaws - 12-22-2016 (12-22-2016, 08:20 AM)Ba Ba Lou Wrote: GrizzlyClaws, The African lion as a single subspecies also has many different clades; the East African lion and South African lion are obviously two different clades within a same subspecies. The West/Central African lion is also a unique clade of the African lion subspecies, and this particular clade had later given the birth of a brand new subspecies known as "Panthera leo persica". In my own opinion, the African lion should be considered as the nominated subspecies as "Panthera leo leo", since it is the original Panthera leo, and "Panthera leo persica" is just a mutated version of "Panthera leo leo". |
