A truly incredible interaction of some very lucky male lions in the Okavango Delta crossing a river, and being chased by a hippo. The two males on the other side of the river still have to get across there.

Great shot of a tree climbing male in Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania. Some of these tree climbing lions look very distinct, especially in more humid regions.

Very large male in Lake Nakuru, Kenya. Skip to 2:00 mins, you later see him walking at 3:40 min.

He's a very impressive looking male and he doesn't even look bloated like the usual fully fed lion, which impresses me even more. He's quite a striking male especially with his dark appearance.

This is such incredible footage. It seems that the video I posted earlier of the same incident was removed from YT.

One thing I love about the colder, windy climate of the Ngorongoro Crater is that it produces some of the most impressive and beautiful manes ever. You seldom ever see beautiful manes like this elsewhere, it's such a special place with the right conditions.

Huge captive South African lions with big beautiful manes. Glen Garriff Conservation sanctuary, South Africa.

Young Ethiopian male in the Harenna rainforest, Bale National Park, Ethiopia.

This is in the lower altitude range of the forest at around 4000-5000 ft, so the climate is mild at those altitudes and lions usually grow medium sized manes here. The forest extends up to 10,000 ft so the climate is drastically different, it's a lot colder and frost is a very common sight in the forest at that altitude. Lions would have thick fur and much larger manes in the higher parts of Harenna forest, and like the lions even the forest starts to look very different, it goes from looking very tropical to looking quite European at those higher altitudes. Beyond the Harenna forest is the alpine meadows or tundra, here it can snow throughout the year and is home to the rare Ethiopian wolf. Lions have been known to roam through those parts of the mountains even going as high as 13,000 and 14,000 ft, freezing temperatures are common all year at those altitudes. This shows that Ethiopian lions are both warm and cold climate cats even within the same national park, which is quite unique, it's like 2 different populations but really only separated by altitudes.

A true beast!

It did not last long in the successful hunting operation led by the young male lion of the southern pride.

Great footage as always by @shamwari_tv
