RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 06-10-2020 Stormy love... RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 06-15-2020 David Yarrow: "The Old Testament We look forward to returning to Africa soon. My understanding is that there is a good chance some international flights to some key African tourist destinations will start again within 6 - 8 weeks. Whatever the case, whether it be 6 weeks or 3 months, when we do return, we will feel an even greater appreciation of what we see. I think we may all have been a little blasé about it in the past, but those days are now gone forever. We are just thankful for the opportunity and blessed with so many memories. 2020 is a line in the sand on so many fronts - it’s probably our generation’s pivotal year. We called this picture The Old Testament" because it had a timelessness about it. As always, I thank my friend Kevin Richardson (@lionwhisperersa) for making this image even remotely possible. They are not albinos; they lack the tawny coloration due to a rare condition that results in reduced pigmentation. Because of their majestic appearance, they have been revered as sacred beings by tribes in southern Africa, but have also been hunted to extinction in the wild. They are now being reintroduced in protected areas. " RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 06-21-2020 Marlon du Toit: " Happy Father’s Day to all the legends out there, to that’s that are still going & to all those no longer with us. To the dads who inspire us & fill us with courage & belief, WE SALUTE YOU! " RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 06-22-2020 " Happy #FathersDay!!! (For now, we'll ignore the fact male lions will sometimes kill or chase off cubs ?) Did you know that over the last 50 years, the number of wild lions across Africa has fallen from 200,000 to a mere 20,000? It is a #silentextinction that needs more attention. Check out @newbig5project to learn more about the threats lions face and how conservationists and photographers are uniting to save lions. RE: Lion pictures and videos - Sanju - 06-24-2020 Researchers capture drone footage of African 'tree lions' in conservation study Researcher Alexander Braczkowski spent a year monitoring and filming lions in the Queen Elizabeth conservation area in Uganda. In just-published results, Braczkowski found the area’s lions are in a precarious state, with the home ranges of males much larger than previously estimated – suggesting they are having to travel farther to find food. Braczkowski got a special permit to use aerial photography and slowly got the lions used to the drones over time. The result has been valuable research into the big cat, as well as some incredible imagery https://www.theguardian.com/environment/video/2020/jun/20/researchers-capture-drone-footage-of-african-tree-lions-in-conservation-study-video?CMP=share_btn_tw RE: Lion pictures and videos - Matimbalani - 06-24-2020 Somewhat related to the post above by @Sanju, here is an article in The Guardian "'My land is now owned by lions': Maasai farmers offer Kenya's wildlife a lifeline" I wish there was a better solution to the issue of increasing human population and pressure on wildlife, but barring that these schemes provide some relief.
