RE: Lion pictures and videos - Shadow - 03-23-2020 This video has one of the most impressive paw swipes I´ve seen filmed. I have seen in past, maybe 20 years ago a documentary in which a male lion broke spine of a hyena with one paw swipe. This video reminds me a lot of that. Sounds on this video are maybe edited in some way, but that swipe really hits like a hammer and that younger lion looks like to be a bit stunned actually for a moment. He really hits the ground when that swipe lands. It looks like, that he has to take a moment on the ground and not eager to challenge that older male anymore seriously, submitting very quickly and clearly. Older male or maybe better to say prime male looks like one who knows how to make his case clear. And he moves fast also when giving those few swipes more after a moment, causing that younger to submit and stay down for good. That "perfect swipe" in between 1:06-1:10 and some more later so, that situation ends approximately at 1:45. Maybe not the best quality video otherwise, but definitely worth to watch. Some smaller animal, imo, could have been killed from a swipe like that if hitting to the right spot. RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 03-23-2020 " Sparkling in the eyes. That could be because they tend to get on two legs like tigers while exchanging swipes (also that one landed well ofcourse). If you go to the FB page of The Wild Animal Sanctuary you'll see it's just some fenced enclosures. I don't think it's even in Africa. Anyways, from the types of pics I have seen now & them, I think some South African (mostly) safari companies even trick unaware tourists into it. Many of their parks just large fenced areas, they release grand looking captivity raised lions to attract tourists in those private safaris. Of course it´s easier to lose balance when on hind legs, still that kind of impact is rare to see. Some leopard or hyena would have been flying/sliding/rolling some meters from that impact. It can be seen, that there was a lot of power behind that swipe, meant to make it clear that this lion demands respect. Many videos have swipes, but to see one hitting that hard is rare. I think, that younger lion had to take a moment to understand where he is after hitting the ground, he wasn´t coming up right away or rolling to his back as often can be seen to happen when just losing balance and continuing to fight in a split second. Not easy to land a swipe that good, but nice to see at least once on video what kind of potential there is when it happens. RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 03-24-2020 The light behind him...
