Male lions will often use the roads as territorial pathways.

Brothers in Blood: This film will give you the perfect introduction to the recent history of lions in this amazing part of the world. Once you have watched the film, see if you recognise the fearsome trio in our gallery below.
This coalition of lions, along with their other brother, control a vast territory within Sabi Sands after dethroning the mighty Mapogo lions.

I think Dark mane is still the dominant one.

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve:
"The Mhangeni Pride brought down and killed a kudu cow before being joined by the three Majingilane males who ravenously finished off the carcass within 2 hours."

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve:
"There has been a lot of lion activity over the past couple of days and at one stage, we had over 40 lions on our reserve!!
The Mhangeni Pride, the Southern Pride and the Sparta Pride were all seen!
They have been moving around a lot, with the Majingilane males enjoying a meal which the Mhangeni Pride took down! We watched as the Sparta Pride stalked a herd of impala, which was all going well until some of the younger members failed to take their opportunity!
Blog to follow…"

FORTY-FOUR LIONS!:

It’s been dangerous times for the Southern Pride and their cubs as the ever-dynamic territories of lions evolve. The Southern Pride females and their 14 cubs have been left in a vulnerable position as the power-hungry Charleston males have tried to extend their empire south of the Sabie River into the Kruger National Park. It has been suggested that they are struggling to get back due to the high-water level, but it also could be that all the Southern Pride females have sired cubs and therefore their need to reproduce has pushed them in search of females looking to mate. This has forced the Southern Pride to retreat back towards the Southern section of their territory, an area that they feel very comfortable in and has been a stronghold for them in recent times, however this has left the northern section of their territory open to intruders.

This has come in the form of two prides we have seen in the last few days. The Mhangeni Pride, who came in from the North close to Little Bush Camp, after following a large herd of buffalo. They felt safe in an area that is foreign to them as they had brought with them their protectors who themselves have a fearsome reputation, the Majingilane males. Despite the recent death of the Hip Scar male, these last three Majingilanes bear the scars of war and have an aura about them.  They are most certainly still a force to be reckoned with.

I was amazed as we witnessed the Mhangeni Pride bring down a large kudu cow and in true lion fashion at the dinner table, forgot all manners and ripped into the carcass and devoured it, along with the Majingilane males in a couple of hours. The noise was deafening and even after I left the sighting, the fighting over the scraps could be heard over the plains 800 meters away!

Majingilanes vs Matimbas
August 2011

This reports pointing out about some early confrontations between Majingilanes and Matimbas.

MANYELETHI MALES = 4 +/- 6 YEARS 10 MONTHS MATRHLY, EYREFIELD, MALA MALA, NORTHERN FLOCKFIELD DOMINANT OVER THE STYX, EYREFIELD, FOURWAYS AND MARTHLY PRIDES (17 sightings) The four males continue to control and dominate all they see. They spent most of the month with the Eyrefield pride, and only occasionally would one or two of them head back to the Styx pride. The four were seen together on a few occasions, but for the most part they were competing for the young females in the Eyrefield pride. When the two newest members of the Styx pride were introduced for the first time, two of the males were there and one briefly interacted with them. They have been spending less and less time in the northern parts of the Mlowathi, which at the beginning of the year was where we’d always find them. This could be due to them spending most of the month with the Eyrefield pride, but it’s more likely due to pressure coming from the north in the form of six young males. Reports are that these males are about 18 months younger and looking for territory. There have been a few skirmishes between the two coalitions already, and it looks like the lines have been drawn along our northern boundary. It is going to be interesting to see what happens in the next few months, and where that is going to leave the prides.

I think he's number 2 in dominance, but for me Dark mane is the King of the coalition.

Scar Nose is the youngest correct? It would seem as they get older he would become the more dominant one, but no need to beat a dead horse you answered above.

It seems to be the case, but so far in every video I see of them Dark mane still takes first choice, be it mating or food. Next to him Golden mane is also in the thick of it, and so far I've never seen Scar nose try to force either of them off a kill or fight them over a girl.

From Yesterday: Just to update everyone, I have just got back from spending some time in the sighting (too dark for a good pic), the males are feeding with the Othawa pride lying right next to them. The males growl at the pride members when they move around but they all seem quite unconcerned about the situation. The Majingilanes are roaring to the east and each time that happens the Avocas stop watching the Othawa pride and feed faster.

From today: This morning the three Majingilane males are with the Othawa pride, the Avocas have moved back to the far West but only tracks of them so far. All the Othawa pride are ok.

I also think dark mane is still king but gold mane has made big jumps in ranks in the past years since hip scar injury was getting worse I think he moved up but scar nose is a great brother and the biggest I belive and I see it as in every Great coalition there has to be a subordinate some how some way
