There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
Kevin Richardson:" There are two sub species of lion.
Panthera leo leo - Central, West Africa and Asia and Panthera leo melanochaita - East and Southern Africa. It was previously thought that the Asiatic lion was a separate subspecies however modern genetic studies reveal that genetically they are similar to the Central, West and previously North African (Moroccan or Barbary) lions. I find this fascinating as one almost wants to assume that the Central populations must be more genetically similar to their eastern cousins but this is not the case. "
