There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Amur tigress chasing an adult brown bear captured on video

Finally, for the first time ever, camera traps managed to capture video of a wild confrontation between an Amur tiger and Ussuri brown bear. The video shows a tigress chasing, what appears to be, an adult male brown bear along a forest road in the Sikhote-Alin Nature Reserve. The tigress was chasing the bear out of the area for quite some time and distance, as she returned back half an hour later.

Why exactly the tigress was chasing the brown bear is unknown, but employees of the reserve think its most likely that the tigress found the male brown bear scavenging on her kill, and then chased him away because she didn't want to share her meal. Or its possible that she simply chased the bear out of her territory. But considering the time and distance she was chasing out the bear, my guess is she was driving the brown bear out of her territory. Its also possible that the tigress was driving the bear away from her little cubs.

The video also shows that even a tigress is able to scare and chase away an adult brown bear.

If this was an adult male tiger, especially a resident dominant male, the situation may have been much worse for the bear. In recent years, more and more cases and reports keep coming out of tiger-brown bear interactions & tiger predation on brown bears. There was just recently a case of a tiger killing a large male brown bear in a fight in the Khekhtsir reserve. The fact that the Amur tiger population has significantly increased, its inevitable that in the near future, more accounts and reports of tiger-brown bear interactions and tiger predation on brown bear cases will be recorded.

Judging by the tiger's body/skull size and shape, this clearly looks like a tigress. The bear is a bit taller and the more massive animal, probably a medium-sized adult male:

"A camera trap installed in the Sikhote-Alin Nature Reserve, which is located in Primorye, captured video of an Amur tiger chasing a brown bear."

"The chase took place at night: the tiger slowly moves after the bear, which runs away from it into the forest. The moment of the chase was captured by several cameras located in different places. After some time, the tiger returned from the forest."

"The reserve's statement notes that the tiger did not show active aggression towards the bear; it simply did not want to share its meal with it."

The brown bear clearly looks like an adult male brown bear:
