There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Here's more on the size of modern Amur tigers from an expert authority - Dr. Victor Lukarevsky.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profile...lukarevsky

Victor Lukarevsky has spent well over 30 years (probably more than 40 years now) as a wildlife biologist studying big cats in the field and protecting them. He has worked with STP biologists such as Dale Miquelle and others, as well as other biologists like Sergey Kolchin. He also featured in the 2013 TV mini series - 'Operation Snow Tiger' with biologist Dale Miquelle. Lukarevsky is a very experienced Amur tiger biologist & conservationist, he's also captured and weighed Amur tigers, so he know's about the size and weight of wild Amur tigers.

Some years ago, Lukarevsky was contacted by Craig Kennion regarding the size of modern Amur tigers. Lukarevsky stated that in nature, there are individual tigers that are very different in size. And their weight can vary by more than 50 kg.

He states: "Unfortunately, the two largest males which were caught for the purpose of tagging, for objective reasons, we could not weigh. In one case, it was very large, but not fat young male. Normally, young males (3-4 years old) weigh 160-180 kg, but adults older than 5-6 years old weigh an average of 220 - 240 kg."...

"I think that 280 kg is not the limit for an adult large male."

Its highly possible that the 4 gigantic male tigers from the Anyuisky National Park which were reported by biologist Alexey Gotvansky, could have weighed 250 - 280+kg. Who knows. But we do know that they're giant male tigers that haven't been weighed.

I think if 'large', or 'very large' adult male tigers were captured and weighed from various regions (Khabarovsk Krai & northeast China) the average weight of modern Amur tigers (referring to Guate's data & conclusions) would be higher. I'm firmly certain of this.
