He looks large...but seriously: Chaos, would you say that this lion is muscular?

Hes not ripped, but he's powerful looking. There's a large disparity amongst male lions in their physical appearance.
Some are very muscular, while others fall far short. Age, food intake, genetics and illness all factor in

I just love this big boy. Even if you disagree with me on his muscularity @Amnon242 you can't say he doesn't look big and massive.

He is quite large. Like I said, camera angle and body position can reflect different appearances. He looks massive from this angle. Full
bodied and powerful.

This is some pictures of earless son of the Notches. He was chased out of the pride by Notch 2 and Ron, he is now doing fine as he has formed a coalition with another male called yellow boy, they are currently with the Rongai Pride.

Grimmace looks to be a smaller male in that picture next to the jeep, what do you think?
Other boys look to be good sized specimens.

@Pckts Grimace is actually quite big, he looks skinny here as well, but he actually looks large framed  to me in this picture. Also the jeeps they have in the Mara are very big, he would look bigger if the man had stepped out of the car.

Maybe, I'm using the man to scale and the jeep, his brothers seem much more bulky. But it could just be the one picture...

Some information on territorial behavior and prides of the notches

the notch boys have conquered many territories and beat a lot of other male lions. But unlike lions south in Africa the results rarely ends in death, the opponent males just tend to make a run. This actually seems to fit very well with packers studies that lions rarely kill each other in fights (his studies where done in Seriengetti, the neighbor reserve to the Masai Mara) while the outcome would probably be different in South Africa and Sabi Sands where the mapogos (was 6, lost 3 in fights) the selati (was 5, lost 3 in fights) those are just two coalitions from Sabi.

They had at the most 17 different prides and does now have 10 prides: 2 look out prides, roan hill pride and Rongai pride these are the five they at the moment are interested in because the five others does have Cubs and sub-adults and are not ready to mate.

The other five is 2 olkiombo prides, mayafisi pride, hammerkop pride and the kereekok break away pride.

Grimace doesn't share food even when he's full! Great picture of a great lion.
