I think it would severely depend on the circumstances. 

If a pride gets attacked and the pride lion is there and starts the fight, they likely will fall back to their role in the pride and flee along with their sisters and lionesses. However if they feel confident and the pride decides to fight, they may join in. But its the same for the lionesses. 

If the pride is without a pridemale. They may, if they feel confident enough take on that role themselves for a while.
Just like Nguvu did. But in reality it boils down to fleeing once the first serious competition arrives. Reply
