There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Lake Quintet Males, very impressive. I was recently thinking about the Crater males, and their size and impressive manes, and I wonder if perhaps there is something that occurs in that area naturally that is causing this.

I bring this up as I have spent a good many years studying whitetail deer, habits, herd sizes, why some areas have larger deer body wise, and some areas have deer with massive racks. During that time, I found that when you have a particular area where the majority of deer in a particular area have something unique or special about them there is most often something in that area that occurs naturally which brings that about. Say perhaps a particular mineral is in abundance, or there is a tremendous amount of a particular food source, ie, a farm in a particular area has bucks with much larger racks than other farms in the same area, and you find out there is naturally occurring calcium or phosphorus in that area that isn't in the surrounding areas, this can be in either raw mineral deposits or even in certain types of foliage. This has caused me to wonder if something along those lines is occurring in the Crater, because I am really not sure it can all simply be attributed to plentiful food sources. There are a lot of lions in other areas who have plenty of food available, and yet they don't seem to get manes like the Crater lions do, or in some cases body sizes as well.

Anyhow, I digress, here is the short clip I came across of the Lake Quintet males. It is in link form, as you cannot insert YouTube "Shorts" videos.
