Roar falls silent: Prince of Bandipur tiger reserve died of starvation

Bengaluru: In a big blow to Bandipur tiger reserve, male tiger 'Prince', a huge crowd favourite at the reserve, was found dead near Lokkere, Elachetti section of Kundkere range. According to sources, the tiger reportedly died of starvation.


Prince, alias Kunta alias BPT 222 (identification by tiger biologist K Ullas Karanth) was twelve years old. 

The tiger was first camera trapped at Bandi Kallara road in Hediyala range on Jan 16, 2009, and had an estimated long range of 35-40 kms. The Bandipur staff, which called him 'kunta' (due to an injury to his front paw) are shocked over the tiger's death.
