There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

The Mighty Mapogos

A coalition of five big healthy brothers. Take away the human factor and in nature these lions would no doubt earn their celebrated title among beasts. Some great lion pictures on this topic.

they have done this already, it is almost 6 years since the first mapogo died and 3 years since the last one,
and lion enthusiasts still talk about them, especially the mapogos are getting to become something like "cult" in the southeastern asian countries,

Quote:The 5 Mapogos had 5 female sisters, there were 10 altogether,

what happened to the 5 lionesses, what coalition did they mate with?
Well, I don't know much about them, but if they stayed in the Sparta pride, they might have mated with the Rollercoaster males, and eventually with their own brothers, since the Mapogos chased away the remaining Rollercoaster male.
Then eventually I guess they also mated with the Majingilane. But I'm not entirely sure how they managed the takeover process in the Sparta pride.

"A cat and water don't mix- This image is an oldie, but it's not that often you get to see a lion cross a river! One of the Mapogo Lions, who growled the whole way across, as though that would keep his paws from getting wet!"

this photo must be around May 2012, but still a few weeks later PB reunited with Makalu and stayed together hunting until November 2012 when he died

PB died of a animal deseases which can't be treated,
Makalu disappeared in Kruger, usually when they get very old, they can't hunt and die of starvation or they get attacked by other predators.
Makalu was 15 yo, 7 years after his prime and he had surpassed the normal life expectancy by 3 years. Usually lions living in the wild live about 12 years.

A blast from the past, Mr T Mapogo - From a trip to the Sabi Sands in 2009.

"Mapogo Portrait" - Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa

"A stare from a male Lion sends shivers down ones spine, especially a stare from a member of the famous Mapogo coalition of the Sabi Sands. The first rays of sunlight cast beautiful warm tones onto the Lion, adding to the golden colour of his mane."

"I believe this is Makhulu. I took this pic in the Western Sector 2010-09-03. They (Makhulu, Mr T & Pretty Boy) walked south to a buffalo kill where females and cubs were eating. Mr T & Pretty boy stayed well back from the kill. Mr T was limping."

Mark Dumbleton:
"Quite an old image captured on my very first visit to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve in 2008. Little did I know back then about the powerful and famous Mapogo coalition."

"A few years ago a well known coalition of male Lions, called the Mapogo's ruled the area of the Sabi Sands, killing any intruders in their way. Here, Mr T (or Satan) as he was called, sits on the edge of a dam as the faint twilight glow of morning paints the sky in a soft blue hue."
The one and only, Mr.T.
