Unfortunatly it looks like yet another ancounter between Mbiri and Koppies prides took place in which one of the females and two cubs from the Koppies pride has been killed bringing Koppies pride down to one single lionesses and five cubs. Mbiri pride for the past couple of weeks was shifting territory further forth from the logde so from the arena they dominated for the past years. Talamati pride with Dark Mane Avoca also were seen, all in great condition.

Btw yet in regards to recent discussion about Tsalala pride situation. That what just happened in Manyeleti perfectly shows what happens when big pride is shifting its territory into territory of a small pride. Tsalala pride is in even worst position as not only Nkuchuma pride is moving into northern Londolozi, but also Kambula pride is showing themselfs there as well. Most likely it will be getting even worst as Kambula pride will be growing in numbers and sub adults will be forming breakaway. Then Kambulas most likely will be stretching their territory even further and very well migh be showing themselfs in northern Londolozi more often then they just to do.

Very sad news indeed.

Thanks for posting this.. and you’re right, lone lioness are always in danger. I just meant with the Tsalala situation, it’s slightly different since her sub adults older and can get away faster. I think the Koppies always have to stand their ground  and fight because their cubs can’t run away.

I’m shocked that the Orpen males not only didn’t protect the Koppies, but fed on her? This is a pride they associate with.... they should have recognized her in some way? I’m not saying lions should grieve like humans do but the whole behavior of Junior of having cubs and abandoning them to the point where he doesn’t even associate with his former pride, and treats them like an enemy, is sad. What a contrast between him and dark mane avoca.

They can not fight back pride of 6 females.

Perhaps Orpens haven't been on the spot when fight took place and just fed on Koppies female after she was already dead. It would be indeed very strange behavior if Orpens participate in killing Koppies female

Nhenha and Tinyo fought off 6 big females who are known to be extremely aggressive not once but twice protecting another female from the pride. First the Mangheni lioness in 2018 and the Tsalala female this year. The first time Nhenha did it solo because his other brother was attacking the Mangheni and he still managed to save her. No reason, Junior couldn't have done the same. I geuss Bboys are just more capable at handling this type of situation whilst Junior clearly isn't. Also the Tsalala lioness is in danger to a certain extent but unlike with Junior, if Nhenha and Tinyo are present, they will save their lioness as we have see before.

Oo course even Junior on his own could chasse whole Mbiri pride if he want and if he would be on the scene. I meant that two females can't fight back 6 females. Males vs females is different story.

I’m sorry but Nhenha didn’t physically fight off 6 females to protect the Tsalala female. He was not even near her. He could have ran up and chased all of them away but instead she was stranded against the cliff for hours defending herself against two females and Tinyo. I give 90% of the credit to Tsalala female for protecting her own self, and maybe 10% to Tinyo. This is not to knock your favorite lion Slayard but I hate exaggerations because it takes away credit from whom credit it due.... those girls fought tooth and nail to survive with very little help from any male (as most females do). And in the Tsalala females case it was Tinyo who was mildly helpful.

There is only one incident I know of where a male PHYSICALLY protected a female. GM from Majingilanes. I’m sure everyones seen this video but not only pulled his brother off the female but stayed with her all night (almost keeping her company and roaring with her while she passed away). This is definitely not the norm, but still good to see that some males do protect their females. :

Theres no evidence that Junior or Buddy was with Mbiris when that females was killed, they most likely wasnt, or where near by.. so stop assuming things...

Also, even when 1 coalition is dominant over 2 prides, when those prides collied that doesnt matter, even when males are there, they are mostly peacekeppers, but not always succesfull.. 6 females can kill single lioness in half a minute..

100% correct, Tsalala female only survived because she was against a cliff, so females couldn't grabe her from behind, otherwise she would be death by now, regardless of Nhenha being there.. Nhenha definitely tried to help and did a bit, but he would not be able to save it...

Yes, we don’t know what exactly happened in the fight but the cannibalism  confused me. Typically lions feed on another lion’s carcass as an act of dominance, not for food. For example, if Buddy passes away Junior isn’t going to start feeding on him...But he might feed on a lion he killed in battle.  Anyways, these are all behaviors I don’t think humans fully understand but definitely troubling to see.

Oh my god guys, yes they did. Its literally stated that the Gowrie Males intervened. That does not mean we should take credit from her but if not for the Bboys, she would definitely be dead. Both Birmingham Boys participated in protecting her. Don't take my word. Take the word of the rangers. They literally said it. They are even saying it now. On the post of the Tsalala cub, Moosa Varachia literally writes, "her mum was recently attacked by the Kambula Pride before the Gowrie Males intervened. "Also not once but twice, Nhenha saved the Mangheni lioness in 2018 as well, from the Kambula and from Nsuku or Mfumo. During the Tsalala incident, the cliff played a part and did help but Tinyo was literally standing there in between them and was giving the Kambula lionesses beatings  and  @Gijima it's 100% clear Nhenha was chasing the pride and beating on them out of irritation because of the Tsalala lioness. He was confused because he was mating with one of the Kambula lionesses so he didn't leave her but was coming forward and chasing the pride. Use your brain for a second and ask yourself , why would he be chasing the pride when he just needed to sit with the Kambula lioness in the corner and just keep her away from Tinyo? He didn't even attack Tinyo once to indicate that he was attacking the pride for mating rights. He was trying to get close but didn't want Tinyo near the other female. If it wasn't for the Bboys, 100% she would be dead. Give the Bboys credit, the Majingilane did a horrible job with the Ximungwe, DM participated in her death and GM tried to stop it but was too late. On the other hand, with the Mangheni, Nhenha beat up his brother and stayed with the female and was controlling the females with his presence alone. We don't know if Junior was there or not but if u was then he didn't do a good job of protecting his lioness and cubs. On the other hand, Nhenha and Tinyo should be given credit in protecting their lionesses. I'm sorry but if you take that away, then you're just being an anti

Dark Mane killed the Ximungwe lioness and Scar Nose tryed to help her not Golden Mane....
If Golden Mane was there propably he would try too because  some days earlier or a month he was mating with Ximungwe pride
Dark Mane didnt know the other pride and helped Othawa lioness in a territorial fight with Ximungwe pride
