From what I have seen, they are taking his disappearance very seriously. They seem to be allocating many individuals to finding him.

Yashwant Mahadik:
The full side profile shot of Mahaman. This image captures the beautiful structure of the great big cat known as Tiger. Tigers are my most favourite amongst the big cats and if shot properly (profile, angel, light effect, background, exposure compensation, etc) they can convey the meaning of a big cat really well. This was shot by me when Mahaman was retiring to his cave.

No way Jai was pushed out by any of his son's, IMO, they aren't nearly powerful enough nor large enough yet, the only reasonable guess is either he migrated on his own or was poached. Hopefully it's not the latter.

Surprise in Magical Kabini in our Evening drive today.

We are seeing this tigress for the first time. If Anyone has seen/photographed this girl, please comment Here.

From Tigerwalah,  Season Round Up: Jim Corbett:
Every year when gates of Corbett close it feels as though a long journey has come to an end and a sense of nostalgia and a rush of emotions begin to build up within you. This period gives the park its time to rejuvenate itself and the tourist’s time to look back at what a wonderful journey they have been on.

Welcome to Corbett, the land of the elusive. A place full of suspense and mystery. The season of 2015/16 was a brilliant one for the tiger reserve, sightings were on a record high and tigers were being sighted all over the place, new younger tigers were being sighted as well as the older well known tigers of the reserve. Regular sightings occurring in every zone of the tiger reserve simply showed how well the ecosystem was going. Sightings in all 5 zones of the reserve made sure that the park was packed with tourism throughout the year.

The new Dhela eco tourism zone turned out to be a super hit with frequent sightings of 2 dominant female tigresses each with cubs, apart from this sightings of a massive male tiger also occurred. Further down from Dhela, the Jhirna zone of the tiger reserve boasted with sightings as a new female with cubs was sighted in the area, the family gave many sightings throughout the course of the season. Apart from only tigers reports of sightings of the elusive sloth bear as well as the rarely sighted leopard, Jhirna continued to impress with sightings of a massive number of birds some of which people were unable to see in other zones of Corbett.

As everyone expected Dhikala impressed from the very beginning sightings in all areas of the zone kept all the different regions of the area packed. The main road proved to be a hotspot for sightings and more often than not tourists were sighting tigers in the sub divisions of the zone which come on the way while on the two hour drive such as Sultan, Gairal, Sarpdulli and Khinanauli all touching the main road flourishing with wildlife. For a second year in a row the Nadipaar region of the zone proved to be a hotspot for sightings, the famous tigress from the area commonly known as Parwaali had given birth to a litter of two tiny cubs. This attracted a lot of attention from many tourists all across the country, sadly the untimely disappearance of the cubs struck a blow in the hearts of many, fortunately this did not affect the sightings and movement of the female and everything continued the way it was going. Across the river lies the famed grassland of Dhikala, which is famous for its tiger and elephant movement, regular sightings of the female from the area occurred. So much so that at the end of the season she was expected to be nursing young cubs. The ever so shy male from the grasslands was sighted all across the area.

The new addition of Sambhar road proved to be excellent for sightings. After a terrible year at Sambhar road last year the complete opposite occurred this year, sightings in almost every safari ride by at least one car were occurring. The addition of the new roads made the ever so rare river crossing of the Ramganga a common occurrence and again the tigress from Par graced tourists with her presence on the famous road. Apart from tigers the elephant movement on the road was unmatched, it was  one of the best years for elephant photography truly displaying the essence of the land of the roar, trumpet and song. Due to the scarcity of water in the grassland the pachyderms stayed in Sambhar road offering some amazing photo opportunities for photographers. Regular sightings of the ever so rare leopard cat made Sambhar road a spot to be at.

One of the most photographed and famed tigresses of Corbett Sharmili of Bijrani had many expectations surrounding her and her litter of four by now completely adult cubs. The family displayed some incredible tiger behavior starting with the tigress from the Ringora area pushing into the heart of Sharmilli’s territory, competition from her daughters also made it hard for her but towards the end of the season the grand old dame of Bijrani displayed her dominance to the truest form. Her two sons the rapidly growing in size made sure that no other male tiger had a chance in the zone. The ever-growing cubs of the Ringora female also gave sightings to tourists that visited the area, and this tigress unlike any well known tourist zone tiger truly displayed the wildness that Corbett has and the elusive nature that the reserves tigers posses.

Each year the 15th of June marks the end of a journey, yet we wait in anticipation of what is to come, of the surprises that lie ahead and slowly that wait becomes a reality and the gates re open and new stories are told.

From Tigerwalah, Season Round up : Bandhavgarh:

Rise of the 3 Sultans as one fades away…

As I round off the Bandhavgarh season 2016, it occurred to me to revisit the Season round off of 2015 and the Tigerwalah prediction.

The Tigerwalah 2015 prediction:  The Park will see Tala rebound gloriously, Magdhi continue to rock, expect to see 15+ Cubs next season. The season will be like never before…and the females of Bandhavgarh will lead the way.

While I have to admit that tala continues to be slow on its road to recover, the other predictions are beginning to show up true. The glorious Rajbhera, Sukhi, Dotty, Spotty , Choti Mahaman & Nigah Nalah, Solo &  Bindi(new kankatti) females are lighting up or leading the recovery at Bandhavgarh. We predicted 15+ new cubs at Bandhavgarh and we seem to have got that right. ( Rajbhera – 4 / Nigah Nalah – 4 / Spotty – 3 / Choti Mahaman – 4) , last heard another new litter of 4 seen at Khitauli. This is the Bandhvagarh we all know and cherish all thru our lives.

2016 at Bandhavgarh will be remembered for a very special male tiger, Bhamera. This handsome male lived his last days in an enclosure and finally passed away in the summer. What we know of him is he lived in the era of B2 and Bocca and carried on the great Bandhavgarh legacy and genes across the Park. Very disciplined and calm was his demeanor and was always up for a picture. Bhamera fades away…his memory lingers on for those who have known him.

The good news, perhaps came from 3 new Sultans who in my opinion will be ruling Bandhavgarh in the next few years.

The 1st is the Kankatti Male ( X male) prodigy of the late Kankatti and Bhamera (B2 lineage) and he is now dominating the area around Tadoba waterhole and old C route.

The 2nd is the New & large Mahaman male, he is now ruling the Mahaman area, Sukhi area & Bhul buliya area.

The 3rd is undisputed in his territory, is the very beautiful Banbehi male cub. I see these 3 to be holding the Bandhavgarh tiger territory for a while. Welcome the 3 new Sultans.

One of the new Sultans : Mahaman Male

October / November this year started to see the Rajbhera and its litter to show itself around Tala, the BBC crew were delighted to get many a moments with these beautiful cubs and a splendid mother. Rajbhera has proved to be a brilliant mom, by bringing up her second 4 cub litter. She kept criss crossing Spotty across the range and they often avoided each other. Spotty on the other hand, kept showing herself often in the range. She with her most beautiful eyes kept the early winter worthwhile for many visitors.Early Jan / Feb saw the couple in love, the Kankatti Male (X male) & Jr. Kankatti ( Bindi) around the waterhole, this is turning out to be an awesome combination for the park with the lineage of Jhujhura and B2/ Bhamera carrying on and we really hope to see cubs in 2016/17.

On the other hand, the Park got a new director, Mr. Raman K and he and his team have started to rebuild Bandhavgarh, several thoughtful procedures and changes have been bought in and we hope to see the start of the revival of this beautiful park under his guidance. The park itself saw a poor monsoon and this led to several areas drying up, including the Rajbhera dam. The authorities have been working to create waterholes and we expect this to revive the park.

March & Summer was all about the Choti mahaman and its new litter, very shy mother and along with Nigah Nallah and its cubs started to create magic at Khitauli and parts of Magdhi. The Big Mahaman male started to push Sukhis old litter out of the area and started to court both Dotty and Sukhi. He now is a big male and is aggressive and his approach. Expect good news coming in from these 2 mothers next season.May belonged to the rajbhera litters, with all their histrionics and playfull activities they began to light up the park. Solo and Dotty kept showing itself often. June bought great news for the park, Spotty was seen with its first litter of 3. At last the old and mad Bandhvagarh fans believed to see the revival of Tala.

This year, should be remembered for the rise of the 3 Sultans and how one faded away…

Tigerwalah Prediction for 2016/17 season : 2017 will be continue to see the rise if the females in the Park, Expect much from Solo, New Kankatti, Dotty &  Sukhi females and this year we should see an addition of 10+ new cubs in the Park. Spotty needs to find the Mirchaini area and settle herself to be able to survive the interference of the cubs. Rajbhera has a very nice spot around the Sehra area and we don’t expect to see to many changes there. The key to the park is what will happen to Chakradhara and Sidd baba, and this year I expect to see a tigress in these grasslands. A very good chance to see New Kankatti establish herself here, if there was not another tigress as people mention of an elusive tigress with 2 cubs.

Najish Sheikh Lion!!!

Damodar Balpande Is it TigOn ( Tigress+ Lion ) ?

Rajesh M Kurpad Tiger in Lions clothing!!!

Gaurav Bhatt Beautiful lion wala tiger

and it goes on...

Anyway, I thought it was interesting when removing the stripes and making the cat all one color, the visual changes that occur in the cat are pretty interesting. It just goes to show the point of the stripes over the point of a single color.

@Pckts,

Yes, a plainer and gold-like coat does seem to make a cat look more defined in musculature.

I think the stripe pattern does it's job perfectly, it breaks up the mass. Your eyes want to continue down a path of the same color and shade to connect the lines (subconsciously) but with stripes, your eyes travel down a muscle indention then when they try to continue the line, they are interrupted by a completely different color and shape. It's very interesting to note.

Take this with a grain of salt, until you read it from an eye witness who is credible, don't believe it.
