The rumor is that he took to cattle lifting and he hasn't been seen in some time.
There was talk of him being tranquilized and removed, either returned to another area or the way of captivity.
But as of now, I haven't heard one or the other, only that he is missing and people are fearing the worse. But Tigers have a knack for appearing when all hope is lost, thats what I'm rooting for.

Monu Dubey Pench

this season time passed like a dream with an awesome and regular sighting of tigers, leopards and wild dogs of Pench Tiger Reserve. I look forward to host and welcome all my friends to enjoy and visit Pench Tiger Reserve after monsoon. Season is finished and park will remain closed for almost 3 months. This monsoon period will hope to bring lots of good news, new tiger cubs and exciting overly green surrounding. I strongly suggest to visit Pench after monsoon to see legendary tigress of Pench, Collarwali. I hope to see her with new cubs after monsoon. With a joy and happy heart i take this opportunity to thank everyone who visited pench and made it a world famous tiger reserve. Look forward to meet, greet and treat everyone again after monsoon. Love and save wildlife,

Season Round Up: Kanha

‘A report of tiger sightings in Kanha Tiger Reserve, season 2015-16’

                                      Kingfisher Male
October 2nd my first safari of season, after roaming around for two hours we were having breakfast in sondar camp. My guide heard a frantic sambar’s call from baiga nallah side and informed me, we packed up immediately and rushed towards the nallah, parked our vehicle on moala road and within five minutes a huge male came on the road and started walking in front of us. Some guides said, it’s Umarpani and others said it was link 7, but without delay I recognised, it’s none other than kingfisher male with his signature hanging belly and bulky size. The first sighting of every season is always rejoicing. It’s very difficult to know tiger movement just after monsoon, as some tigers change their territory and some do migrate to other area. It takes time to know cat movements after three months of restoration.
This season I did 356 drives just like the last one, and it’s been another great year in terms of tiger sighting. I have experienced in the past 10 years that tiger sighting are improving year by year in kanha national park. Mukki zone in particular has been pick of the zones in kanha, where four big males beautifully co-existing with five females in small areas. The good news for everyone was to see lots of females nursing small cubs in all zones.

*This image is copyright of its original author

                       Link 7 female with cubs
Kanha zone which faced tough time last season has improved a lot where link 7 female was frequently sighted with four cubs, all four male. It’s unusual for a tigress to have all-male or all-female litter, the ratio is normally 60-40 or 50-50. Neelam the collared tigress, who was sighted with two cubs last season, lost one male cub at the start of this season who got killed by a male. Later toward end of season, she lost the remaining female cub, killed by link 8 female (Half-sister of Neelam). A male called bajirang (bheema’s brother) has taken over kanha meadow this season who indulged in a fight with Bamnidadar male in early Jan 2016. He proved his supremacy and bamni dadar male had to leave meadow, returning to Bamni Dadar. The queen of kanha meadow Umarpani female was never sighted this season, she had successfully raised so many cubs in kanha and was old enough to survive, by the end of the season it was officially known that she was no more. She had left her legacy behind in the form of a massive male with a huge head who is now dominating mukki, known as Umarpani male. Another meadow male called red eyed was also not sighted this season, who used to visit meadow frequently during the last season.
It’s always interesting to see new tigers in the park. This season a male was sighted between nakti ghati and district line. After a few days he moved towards kisli and was seen on chimta camp-dhawajhandi road and then sighted in raja kachar area. As per forest officials, it was a transient male who came from supkhar in early 2014 and was trying to settle down in area. Mukki had already four males so he moved to kisli zone and at season’s end he occupied some part of kisli and was seen in a fight with budbudi female who was nursing four cubs, sired by Kankata, in that area. Unfortunately he killed one cub in order to mate her, so the female had to leave that area to save cubs. It’s a nature course and there is no control over it.
Kisli zone slightly picked up in sighting as it wasn’t happening at season’s start but there was a dramatic

     Kanha’s Superstar: Munna
change toward the end, and tigers were everywhere in that small zone. Bheema was a frequent flyer till chimta camp from mukki just like last season. Budbudi female sighted with her four tiny cubs in kisli talao regularly, but she got disturbed once when supkhar male killed one of her cub, then she was never sighted with cubs in that area.  The leading star of zone was again Munna, most beloved tiger of park who never disappointed any tourist. But he is aging now, one could see the broken canine and wrinkles on body, he is 14-15 yrs. old, which is a big digit for a wild tiger, he was sighted in same, Digdola, silyari, saunf, ronda and bandri behra areas. Near end of season,he moved towards kisli talab area near kisli gate as bandribehra male (Son of Bud Budhi female and Kankata) started visiting silyariarea and munna must have avoided any meeting with young tigers at this age. Karaighati male, another aggressive male of this zone, covers till magar nallah and supkhar male was also sighted in kisli talab area, so it would be difficult for munna to sustain in there as too much tiger pressure in a small area. This iconic male Munna has ruled every inch of park (mukki-kanha-sarhi-kisli) and has been a celebrity in years past, one of the boldest tiger anyone has seen with CAT written on his forehead. He’s one magnificent male who has been living his life like a king and left his legacy behind, he will be remembered when it comes to kanha’s tiger.
Kankatta, another worrier of kanha was seen two three times this season but later after February he vanished from park and was never sighted again. In his absence new tigers like supkhar and bandribehra males had a chance to take over his territory. Budbudi female’s previous litter dispersed and spread out, one of her male cub was sighted in kanha zone too and then at Bandri Behra. He’s the one now known as Bandri Behra male, and happens to be younger brother of Bhima and Bajirang.

          Bheema with Dhawajhandi female
Mukki zone, the most sensational zone of the park in term of tiger sighting, picked up from day one. It’s quite surprising to see four males fitted in a small zone. After seeing some fights last season between these males everyone was afraid that monsoon would be the tough time for them but all of them were sighted fit and fat this season. Bheema looked more confident this season as he stared expanding his territory and link 7 seemed wiser. There was a fight happening between bheema and Umarpani in January, but the fight was even and both males held on to their respective territories afterward. When bheema was in mating with dhawajhandi female (daughter of BT female) in Feb, link 7 came and fought with him as she already mated with him a few days back. Link 7 squeezed in between all three males since he was seen with some minor injuries most of the time. Kingfisher male gained quite a lot and looked more dominant but he knows his limits, as he never entered in other tigers’ territory. Mahaveer female was seen with four tiny cubs, no doubt they are sired by kingfisher male. Choti has also three small cubs fathered by Umarpani male. Both male looked very protective, most of time they were with their females and cubs. When link 7 came to umarjhola talao, kingfisher pushed him away and stayed there for three days, just to make sure that he had left. Umarjhola female (Mahaveer’s daughter) had mated with link 7 earlier in October and towards end of June she was with kingfisher male. It was quite surprising to see bheema in minkur anicut which is umarpani’s main area, though minkur was the place where all four male were sighted one after another but at different times. There was one more female sighted at district line who was having cubs but no one saw the cubs so hard to say how many she had. Overall mukki has been  great this season as we expected.
Next season kanha is going to rock again with so many lactating females currently seen in all zones. Mukki would be more striking as there are four males and three females with cubs and two other females already mated. Kanha zone wouldn’t be less as link 7 female has four male cubs. Kisli would be attraction of park where new male are trying to take over and lead the way in absence of big guy like Munna and Kankata.

Here is an older video of Bheema aggressively following Umarpani, looks like on this day Uma was choosing to avoid conflict.

Varun Thakkar

Its a forwarded video from kanha 12th jan 2016.
Look at the tiger walking ahead.... His walk looked like he is scared and may be running away.
Is this bheema and kingfisher male or umarpani?
https://www.facebook.com/varunthakkar156...585511542/

This is what Sahil had to say last Jan.

Sahil AK firstly thanks varun for sharing this video.
let me come to the point. I dont think umarpani is running away from bheema. bheema jus following him . Most of the time tiger used to avoid unnecessary fights. But bheema looks more confident than uma for sure. strength wise both are monsters and tough competitors for each other. uma has huge face and muscular legs as compare to bheema wich matters a lot in any fight. Huge face to attack on others brain specially and strong legs to hit another. . But bheema has dominating nature as wel as heavy body . so comparatively both are strong enough to beat other. and second thing both are kanha's two biggest fighters litters. so I dont think anyone of them having fear with another. . And as Minh said chota munna is also another monster of kanha who has ability to beat them both. but right now before any sighting of uma male. we jus have to wait n watch .
in last month bheema found following one female . She was not sighted to me but may be either umarjhola or mahavir female . in chota chattapatra. and on next day uma male sighted with choti mada near mukki maidan. that means both are following or trying to mate with two different females. so surely its a territorial fight, and mostly such fights ends with surrender or movement by any one male. so I dont think there would-be a any serious result of this fight. but at the same time both males are fearless. so. Let it be. might be uma hd moved to different area.

I think Umarpani, Kingfisher, Cm and Bheema all have their days. No one is more dominant than another. they will avoid unnecessary conflict at any given time but for now. these 4 have managed to survive and share Mukki for almost two years (even the females) Lets see how things turn out after monsoon.

Overall size, Kingfisher is the biggest followed by Umarpani and then Bheema and Chota Munna.

I don't know about uma being larger than Bheema, if you watch the video they seem very close in size and to me Bheema actually seemed a little bit larger but hard to tell obviously. Naren said bheema is "taller" while Uma has the "largest head of all the mukki males" and Sahil said bheema has a "heavy body" and says uma has a "larger head and limbs."
It could be like splitting hairs between the two of them, even kingfisher and uma when they fought were close in size, kingfisher did look larger though and most say that kingfisher is just a dense, robust and even "fat" tiger.
Much like how some used to describe Wagdoh.

Either way, mukki is like the wild west of tiger land.... 4 males sharing a small territory, but I do notice that the females there seem to have a tough time protecting cubs which is why they mate with multiple males so often. I wonder what makes mukki so desirable?

Edit: To be fair, bheema is a bit closer to the camera than Uma, both are close in size, that's for sure.

Tadoba lake has been like that since mid 2010 and not much has changed, just different males have replaced the ones that have been pushed back from hefty battles. Mukki of 2015 and 2016 has been like that and surprisingly, no one has tried to finish one another. they have learned to co-exist with the usual fights here and there, Male tigers are not ruthless fighters and will avoid any unnnecessary conflict. the only sad part is that females in these areas will never get a successful litter. look at Maya from Tadoba, she has never managed to raise a successful litter as a result of this. Umarjhola and all the other females of Mukki will never truly have a successful litter either (very rare that any of the cubs from Mukki will survive to see adulthood). the area is not big enough for 4 ruling males.

The second male is definitely much bigger than the first in the video.
The name Bheema was given for this male initially due to his bigger size and strength.

He was the Golden eyed boy aka Prince from Pench. You can see the trademark golden shade in his eyes.
He is the son of Raiyakassa male and Collarwalli tigress.
At 18 months old he was said to be a very large framed male (biggest in the litter and closer to father's size at that tender age).
Unfortunately I dont know about his current whereabouts. I hope he is doing well.
Here are some pics of him as a cub.

Hi @Pckts,

The tiger you posted now is the Prince of Sillari aka Saamrat male from Pench Maharastra side. He is a much older dominant resident male.

The tiger from 2015 was from Pench Madhya Pradesh side, much younger and was called Prince because his father Raiyakassa is the King and a dominant resident male.
This guy as a beautiful amber coloured eyes, hence the name golden eyed boy.

Great info Apollo, if he has Raiyakassa's bloodline you know he's going to be a tiger to watch in the future.
Thanks again
