They both look so darned good! Always thought TYM would have a beautiful mane, even when he was young it was fuller than a lot of males his age (albeit stuck up on top, which made for some fantastic photos), but BYM has filled out great as well. Really good to see them again!

Just deleted my post regarding degrees of separation, lol. Note to self: read all the posts in a thread before replying.

LOL, I wanted to give you some time before I replied. But, your very explanatory post was most appreciated, so thank you for that!

They were ousted soon after joining and Maputo was seen alone for a few months till he found a new coalition partner. They are called the Maputo males now. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvKd25yL6Yj/ more on the new partner.

Maputo Male is the older male with broken teeth, right? I wonder who his partner is.

No that's the Kumana male, Maputo is the younger male and probably not even 7-8 years old yet.

Oh, I thought this was him and his new partner, that must be the second video I can't watch yet. Thank you my friend!

Great news for KYM#1 and/or animals suffering.

Can anyone advise what is the scientific reason behind covering animals face when they're being worked on?

I think if they accidentally wake up sooner then expected, so they cant see anything and dont know what is going on.

If they accidentally wake up and see bunch of humans next to him, he will go wild and attack.

Awesome! Thanks for keeping up on that! Any info on his unrelated partner? Was it actually a snare on him as well?

I agree my friend! I'm so elated to see both in excellent  health and alive! Crazy how I just made a post last week about how I wanted to see them!  TYM looks so much like Nhena! Gorgeous lions!

That, and also to protect the eyes from dirt, debris, direct sunlight etc. A tranquilised lion doesn't always go under with it's eyes completely closed. The eyes are also generally treated with an ointment or drops while they're under as from what I can remember, the cover obviously has to be removed before the animal awakes, or while it's still very groggy and this provides an additional layer of protection in that phase. I remember this from a documentary I watched on translocation of lions from one area to another. A vet would more accurately explain, I'm just going on what I've seen on a program.

Watched this specifically being explained on that documentary about lions, but I'd imagine the same applies to all as I have seen the eye protection and ointments applied in elephant and rhino operations.
