Absolutely stunning pictures of great beauty, but drones shouldn't be allowed in wild country. Or should an exception be made in regions in which animals are threatened by poachers? Good topic for a debate, I think.

This is a segment from the film Life with an Indian Prince. In 1939 two young Americans traveled to India to experience the falconry practices of Indian royalty and to photograph and film wildlife for National Geographic. In addition to hunting with birds of prey, members of the royal party used to hunt with cheetahs. This sport and way of life has disappeared into history. This rare footage is quite unique, and most probably the only of its kind.
Considering the time it was produced, it's a true masterpiece in my opinion.

Amazing Video of a Male lion fighting off a large croc to save his younger brother!
"A lion showed how brotherly love thrives in the animal world by rescuing its younger sibling from being savaged by a giant crocodile.
The dramatic incident in a river in Botswana was captured on video by safari tourists last month.
Footage, starts with two male lions cautiously entering the Linyanti River between Botswana and Namibia.
The pair swim out to the middle of the waterway but appear unaware of a giant crocodile approaching them.
It grabs the smaller lion, rapidly dragging it under the surface.
But the larger feline leaps into action, jumping on to the crocodile, causing it to loosen its grip of the younger lion.
The combatants are shown thrashing about before disappearing into reeds and out of view.
Despite fears the elder lion had been killed, the video shooter posted that it had amazingly survived the encounter and was spotted climbing ashore uninjured!

After going to India and seeing the size of domestic buffalo there, I have a new found respect for this video and the size of Raja. The domestic Bison are huge, I was blown away at their size. They are double the size of the cows there other than a few big bulls.

After going to India and seeing the size of domestic buffalo there, I have a new found respect for this video and the size of Raja. The domestic Bison are huge, I was blown away at their size. They are double the size of the cows there other than a few big bulls.
Those were the local Toda buffalos..They aren't that large as the northern breeds. Males weight 500kgs, they make up for it in ferosity...

- The predominate coat colours are fawn and ash-grey.
- Thick hair coat is found all over the body.
- They are gregarious in nature.
- The body is long and deep and the chest is deep. The legs are short and strong.
- The horns are set wide apart curving inward, outward and forward forming a characteristic crescent shape in males. Curled up beside head in females.
Usually a herd consists of a few females with rarely one or two males. Toda bulls are known to stay in dense forests and will come out only during the breeding season.
They are not always docile. All of sudden they may become furious and dangerous particularly to unknown persons. When necessary, they even fight against tigers and other wild animals in an organized team.

Nagpur has many bison with the same horn shape as the one on the left and they are huge. They must be a different breed, but they are the ones I'm talking about. I only saw a couple of bison with the longer horns like Water Buffalo.

You could have seen the "Nagpuri" breed, 2nd largest in India, some stand 1.5m high at shoulders..or the "Deccani", or "Godavari". Those are also common there.
Our high school Biology has a basic course of Animal Husbandry..so i know them all...The ones in that video were a herd of Toda females.

They are to wild water-buffaloes what dog breeds are to wolves.
The Northeast Indian & IndoChinese species Bubalas Arnee Carabanensis (swamp) & Central Indian wild water-buffalo Bubalas Arnee Bubalis (river) were the source populations.
- From Wiki: The origins of the domestic water buffalo types are debated, although results of a phylogenetic study indicate that the swamp type may have originated in China and was domesticated about 4,000 years ago, while the river type may have originated from India and was domesticated about 5,000 years ago
The "Toda" breed being semi-domesticated, retains much fascinating genes!!!
The females live in small herds in forests along villages. They approach people who feed them hay & husk.. that's when milking takes place. They look more domesticated...
The males however, are completely wild & only comes to proximity ov human settlements to mate. They retain their wild look...
