China: Punish Buyers of Poached Tiger Body Parts
  • author: Lauren S
  • target: Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China
  • Target Signatures: 130,000

Overview
In Zhanjiang, a city in China's Guangdong province, prominent business people and local officials have found a grotesque form of entertainment: watching tigers be electrocuted alive. These so-called "visual feasts" were followed by the tigers being butchered and fed to the attendees. Then the body parts were given as expensive gifts or sold on the black market.

The English-language website of the China News Service has reported 15 suspects have been arrested in a raid. One of the butchers responsible for the slaughter of at least 10 tigers jumped to his own death trying to evade arrest. The tiger trade is technically banned in China, and anyone convicted of poaching faces the death penalty.

Tiger bones and genitals are believed to contain medicinal properties in China, and tiger body parts and meat can sell for the equivalent of thousands of dollars per kilo. This black market industry is a major contributing factor to declining tiger populations worldwide. While the perpetrators of the butchery in Zhanjiang will be prosecuted, so too should anyone implicated in the participation of these grotesque displays, purchasers of these tiger products, and those who accept them as gifts.

Sign this petition to demand that China crack down on people who buy tiger products and watch their execution.

Stop the Slaughter of Kenai Brown Bears
  • author: Center for Biological Diversity
  • target: Andy Loranger, Refuge Manager Kenai National Wildlife Refuge
  • signatures: 23,306
Overview
The isolated population of brown bears on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula is in trouble. Last year, even before state hunting regulations were loosened to allow bear baiting, 69 brown bears were killed legally and another 23 were killed illegally -- reducing the total number of adult female bears by 18 percent.

If these practices continue, such high kill rates could quickly lead to a collapse of the Kenai's brown bear population.

This season's forecast is equally grim: 1,300 permits have already been handed out this spring, with another 700 still available, allowing 2,000 hunters to comb the woods to kill up to 70 bears.

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge took a stand last year to protect this rare and distinct subspecies of Ursus arctos by ending its hunting season early.

Take action today -- urge the refuge to close its lands to brown bear hunting once again to give these bears a fighting chance at survival in their ancestral home.

Stop EBAY Corporation from allowing the sales of animal traps and trapping supplies used to kill !
  • author: Virginia Wiener
  • target: EBAY Corporation
  • signatures: 3,092
Overview
EBAY Corporation is rapidly becoming the enemy of the world's wildlife by allowing the sale of thousands of traps (I recently found more than 9,000) and trapping supplies for purposes of murdering and torturing wildlife. Please check some items like 261450174645, 251507174297, 181269938068 described as having a 7 1/2 jaw spread, which are recommended to trap bobcats, beavers, wolves, mountain lions, among other species.

The international community is trying to prevent poaching and the destruction of our wildlife, while Ebay is helping poachers first by allowing the sale of killing instruments and then by allowing the sale of animals furs, and trophies of  bears, lions, foxes, lynx, and bobcats, among others. There are listings of African lions killed in Tanzania, lion heads, paws and teeth, and monkey furs and hands. It is unbelievable!!!!  Wildlife needs our protection and respect, so please sign and distribute this petition to all animal lovers everywhere. Thank you

Don't Drop Humpback Whale Protections, Canada!
  • author: Kevin Mathews
  • target: Canadian Government Officials
  • signatures: 10,081/11,000
Overview
The Canadian government is currently strongly considering removing the "threatened" status of humpback whales residing off the coast of British Columbia. In what seems like far too much of a coincidence, changing the designation would likely enable the impending Northern Gateway pipeline project to send oil tankers through the protected (for now, anyway) waters where the whales raise their young and feed.

Though the government initially received the recommendation to change the classification of humpback whales three years ago, it decided against it based on the public's opinion. Let's prove ourselves influential again by reminding Canadian politicians that we still want to protect the whales, and that that shouldn't be compromised due to corporate oil interests.

Save the Last 160 Blond Titi Monkeys!
  • author: Ismail A & Patricia Losch
  • target: The President of Brazil Ms. Dilma Vana Rousseff to Enact a law to made a protected area for Blond Titi Monkey
  • signatures: 5000
Overview
There are only about 160 Blond Titi monkeys left in the entire world, making it one step away from extinction. Yet despite its "critically endangered" classification, there are currently no plans to preserve its habitat.

Because of the widespread deforestation occurring throughout Brazil, the Titi monkey's habitat gets smaller every year. Cattle ranching -- including for cows that end up on American plates -- is also encroaching on the monkeys' once lush jungles. And if that weren't enough, the monkeys are also often hunted for their pelts or kidnapped to be used as pets in the wild.

We can't let our negligence allow this beautiful animal to be lost forever. Please ask the Brazilian government to form a legally protected area for the Blond Titi monkey!

Help stop the barbaric medical torture of harvesting bear bile

    1. *This image is copyright of its original author
    2.
    3. Petition byMark DDallas, TX
Wild moon bears, commonly known as Asiatic black bears are caught, put in very small cages known as 'crush cages' which restricted their movement, in fact most bears live the rest of their lives on their backs. Then surgically tubes are permanent implanted into their abdomens, which is susceptible to infections and diseases to draw out, or "milk" their bile twice daily. This process is so incredibly painful to the bears that they are now gnawing off their paws and killing themselves by punching themselves in the stomach to stop the pain. Bear farmers are now fitting them with iron vests to circumvent this. It was recently reported by the Chinese press, of a mother bear who broke free from her captors, strangled her cub, then killed herself, by running head first into a concrete wall! The 'bear bile' is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat liver ailments and sore eyes. Out of the thousands of bear bile products seized by authorities last year, approximately 98 percent come from China. There are herbal and synthetic alternatives that are just as effective, and are much cheaper to buy and produce.
Bear farmers argue that by supplying the demand for bear bile their industry protects wild bears. Well, it couldn't be further from the truth. In fact wild bear bile is considered more potent, and killing wild bears is at an all time high.
Bears can be farmed for their bile for as long as 20 years, although 5 to 10 years is more the average, before they stop producing bile and are then killed/harvested. Bears are literary treated as a crop in China. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature estimates that approximately 14,000 Asiatic, Brown and Sun bears suffer this type of treatment, accounting for approximately half of the species.

Refuse permission to the Rajasthan Forest Dept. to have Ranthambhore's iconic tigress 'Machali' stuffed and displayed upon her death.

'Machali' - Ranthambhore's iconic tigress

A proposal is submitted by Rajasthan's Forest Department to the Authority for permission for this iconic tigress, once deceased, to be stuffed and then displayed as a trophy for visitors to see.

This wonderful old tigress is now being constantly tracked so that on her demise her body can be quickly retrieved before skin and flesh are destroyed. Machali is now seventeen years old and during her lifetime she has successfully given birth to four litters of cubs and her dynasty can be seen throughout both Ranthambhore and Sariska tiger reserves.

This most famous tigress should receive the respect she deserves. On her demise her body should be cremated and her ashes scattered in Ranthambhore where she has reigned supreme for so many years and a bronze statue or wall plaque displayed in her memory. Please sign the petition to the National Tiger Authority in an effort to quash this proposal.

Relocation of healthy lions from Gir forest

The lions in the Gir forest have been affected by the canine distemper virus and have been dying. Similar virus outbreaks in the near future can wipe out the Asiatic lions since Gir is the only place where they exist.
This virus wiped out 30% of the African lions during the 1990s in Tanzania.
Gujarat government hasn't given a proper explanation for the death of around 10 lions and this is quite serious since less than 600 Asiatic lions remain in the wild. They have refused to relocate the lions in the past.
So, join hands and sign this petition to save Panthera leo leo. I hope all forum members support this petition

Join the Fight Against Plastic Pollution

Eight million metric tons of plastic are leaking into our oceans every year. This cannot continue.

Plastic is everywhere. From beaches in Indonesia to the remotest Arctic, it is silently choking our planet. Plastic has contaminated the soil, rivers and oceans. Many of us are doing our part to reduce plastic pollution by recycling and reducing single-use items, but it's just not enough. Governments must step up to take accountability and end this pollution epidemic.

Ask our government leaders to establish a global legally-binding agreement to stop plastics from leaking into our oceans.
