Leopard rescued from a dry concrete well in Ooty - Today in a joined rescue operation, WNCT team and Forest department rescued a leopard from a well in Yellanelli near Ooty. The best side of this successful operation was that the leopard was rescued without being sedated, thus reducing its trauma. The leopard was a healthy male around 5 years old weighing around 70Kgs. Later it was released in a reserve forest in the presence of DFO south.

@Pckts  here I need to tag you to ask you a favor as you are in contact with Kambiz better than anyone else, I've translated the description of the post into my italian language with the auto-translation option on instagram and I've seem the description mentions a FEMALE leopard of 70 kgs!

*This image is copyright of its original author

Now if this is true, it would be an extreme freak record female and therefore Guinnes since the largest females ever reliably recorded weighed max 55-60 kg, this is why I think this could be a translation error of instagram and therefore there is no such thing as a 70 kg female leopard.

This is why I ask if you could please try to translate the post aswell and see if it mentions a 70 kg female as well as for you, to see if it's just a translation error on my device.

I am of the opinion this is 99% a translation error.
Thanks for the help

We'll see, here's the IG translation

It reads as though she's 30kg's but it also mentions 70kg. Either way it's confusing, we'll see what Kambiz says.

Indeed, the translation is very messy and mentions that weight too many times so I assume it's a transition error

Baited and possibly pregnant but still a large girl.

Wow above the average of 45 kg. It's also the first time I ever see an image of a leopardess in the 50 kg range so very nice regardless

Nice of the farmers to let these cattle killers live, we need more people like that. Just hard to accomplish when not all gov’t agencies are good about reimbursement.

Yes, kudos to the ones who decide to not shoot, snare or poison animals despite being a victim.

Two large Namibian males who sadly fell in the hands of the barbaric hunters.

"We had advanced perhaps 40 meters, and I saw it first. SPOTS . . . barely visible in low vegetation. Laying on it’s side . . . and . . . MAGNIFICENT. it had gone 75 paces from the tree. The bullet had done its work and we had our leopard. It was a BRUTE of a big tom. To say we were smiling? . . . After a few photos at the site where we found it, we did the now traditional “around the shoulders carry”. Oh not me! . . . the cat outweighs me by 30 pounds! Jofie is a big man, former rugby player, and I’d guess about 220 pounds, all muscle. I might have saw just a bit of strain at first when adjusting to the load. Back at the lodge, it became clear why. On an accurate platform scale, the big tom weighed 85.2 kilograms (187.8 pounds). A BIG leopard by any standard!"
