- When ever there is talk of big tigers people describe about the "Bachelor Of Powalgarh (Tiger)" from 1930.

-After him probably there is no mention of big tigers. But recently a huge tiger is trapped in camera trap in tarai landscape similar to "Bachelor Of Powalgarh". The forest officials are also very surprised by seeing such a huge tiger.

- Jim Corbett had killed the "Bachelor Of Powalgarh" which was 3.23 meters (over 10 feets) long when he became a man eater in 1930.

I think this is different tiger (or Tigress) ? Because strip pattern do not match from the above one. What do you think ?

- Images has been taken from both side by the camera trap and one can see his big size clearly

- According to forest official the normal weight of tiger is 150 to 160 KG but the tiger seen in this camera trap may weigh upto 250KG.

- The territory of this tiger is also big when compared to normal tigers where he rules.

- Forest conservationist of western area Dr. Parag Madhukar tells that they have done solid arrangement for the security of this tiger by taking help of modern technology.

Definitely a giant male, tiger's weight primarily depends on its bodylength and chest girth.

Here are few more giants

Here is a giant male from Orang NP compared to Sauraha male.

Huge male from Chilla range of Rajaji, tigers from this region are critically endangered. total population is 11 as of last estimate.

these tigers are easily the top contenders for the biggest of their kind.

RE: Huge Tiger camera trapped in Uttarakhand - sanjay - 10-12-2016

Body of dead tiger can be deceiving becasue the body start swelling after sometime and hence make them look larger than what actually they are.
After seeing all these evidences there is no doubt that the big males of tarai area are much larger and impressive specimen.

When they begin to fill with gas that is definitely the case but the male being loaded on the elephant is fresh. His body is still limp, he probably had died within a day or two at most. Decay begins to set in very quickly and you can see hair loss and bloat as sign some of that.

Yes dead tigers do get bloated giving them a thicker appearance but the overall length of the cat wont change.
The giant Orang male I posted was not dead, it was alive when those pics were taken but unfortunately that male died later.
The dead Corbett tiger I posted is a giant cat in all proportions, here is another image of the same tiger

Very huge indeed!! Thanks for sharing. But tigers from upper terai seem to be even big due to some unexplainable reasons though the entire terai has almost the same prey density.

The Terai is a long narrow arc running from west to east. What exactly do you mean by "upper terai"?

Oh i am sorry, i meant upper terai includes nepal reserves, valmiki, katarniaghat, dudhwa. Uttarakhand and uttar pradesh reserves belong to lower terai as far as i knew. But thanks for correction. Indeed the truth is opposite. Upper side of terai has uttarakhand and uttar pradesh reserves. Other reserves are at lower or south east of terai. Once again thanks for correction.

Dear Sanjay, fantastic this pics of the big tiger, where this pic was taked by the camera trap? I want to clarify that the big tiger well known as "Bachelor of Powalgarh" was never a maneater he was a normal tiger living near Kaladunghi in the Powalgarh forest. The measurement of this tiger was 3,10 m (10ft 2 in) between pegs and 3,22m (10ft 7in) over the curves as measured by Jim Corbett after he was shot on november 1930. The correct way to measure is between pegs, since when measured over the curver the stats can be different at each measurement, depending on the pressure of the tape in the body of the animal, cheers.
