For or against zoos? - Sully - 08-21-2016

Zoos. A controversial topic discussed thoroughly by many with both sides having very valid arguments which are well known. So I present a very simple question, are you for or against zoos? Or stuck in a cross road? Please explain your choice below.

For a bit more insight into the perspective of each side: http://animalrights.about.com/od/animalsinentertainment/a/Arguments-For-And-Against-Zoos.htm

I am 100% for having zoos, but only for threatened species. These animals should always have a near-to-lifelike natural environment. They should have the best possible care. While people may buy tickets to see them, the purpose must remain to benefit the animal with the "entertainment" for the human visitors secondary.

I am completely against zoos. Nature reserves (or better yet, plain old nature) are much better for the expansion/death of a species.

If humanity wants to continue living in a modernized society, then they should completely leave wild animals alone.

Honestly, I feel sorry for the animals in zoos as they do not run free nor reach their full size. I am especially against polar bears being in zoos as they are among the least adaptable to climate change - more so than most animals.

This is the best zoo:
The Zoo That Puts People In Moving Cages While Animals Roam Free

As a child, I never liked zoos or circuses because I couldn’t understand what was so fun in watching caged and humiliated animals. Now, as an adult, I believe that animal captivity is wrong to the core since other species have the same rights for life and freedom as we do.

There’s been much debate on the animal captivity lately, and it makes sense why – keeping wild creatures in cages is inhumane, to say the least. Just think about it – not only have we deprived other living beings of their natural habitats by harming the environment, but we also dare to imprison them for our own amusement.
It seems that a zoo in China has found an unusual way to bring people closer to the wildlife without caging animals.

A new approach

As many zoo’s around the world are closing, others are finding new ways for humans to see the worlds animals. There is one zoo in particular that has found an exciting solution to bringing people closer to the wildlife without caging the animals.

Best way to view a polar bear. Have tours in the arctic and leave them free to roam.

Meh, it's just a marketing crap tbh. The animals were never actually free in the first place, they are still permanently caged, just in a bigger cage, big enough for a truck full of people to run through. The humans, on the other hand, are only temporarily caged for like what, 30 mins and then they are back with their freedom. Nothing really change except for that Chinese zoos can earn more incomes thanks to their successful marketing strategy. I guess the only upside to this is that the animals are put in a bigger 'cage' than they would 'traditionally' be (as the area appears to be quite large, based on the pictures).
