Daniel Rosengren: " WOW! WOW! WOW! I just saw the rare black serval in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. Normally these elegant long-legged wild cats are golden-yellow with black spots and stripes. Here it makes a fox-leap pounding on a rodent, its main prey. Stay tuned for more photos of this fantastic animal. "

Daniel Rosengren: " Here comes a second photo of the same black serval I posted a few days ago. When seen in direct sunlight the spots are still visible, just like in black panthers.

The phenomenon of black morphs in animals is called melanism and is caused by an overproduction of the dark pigment melanin. It occurs in at least 11 species of wild cats as well as in many other animal groups. Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. "
