It just gives you perspective how impressive these animals are, you could literally ride on it's back if it let you, just impressive.

Silverback Chimanuka swinging up in the trees. Kahuzi Biega National Park, DR Congo.

It's crazy that despite his massive size, he's able to swing like a much smaller ape and with ease.

Merry Christmas everyone and also have a Happy New Year.

Despite how unusual it seems, it's not rare to see such impressive silverbacks within mountain gorilla groups, especially when they're father and son.

Bwindi gorillas are the other lesser known population of mountain gorillas restricted only to Uganda. They don't live in the same Virunga Mountain range as the ones from Virunga National Park in DRC or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Bwindi gorillas generally have flatter and wider faces, especially certain silverbacks like the one above who have the most striking of features. Bwindi gorillas also have shorter fur than their Virunga counterparts due to the lower elevations, which is between 3900 ft to 8500 ft. Virunga gorillas usually live between 7500 ft to 14000 ft, making them the only known apes to roam a freezing tundra environment, so they can experience snowy conditions at those heights.

Here's a clip of the old silverback Guhonda dragging a ranger in slow motion. It's a very old clip, filmed in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda.

What an absolute unit this guy is, the girth and circumference of his body are just immense. I wonder what the ranger thought at that moment being dragged like nothing, he definitely wasn't amused at the end.

It's a violent world for chimpanzees, even alpha males aren't safe from being beaten down and even killed by ambitious members of their troop.

This is quite an unusual sight considering these are plants commonly seen in Europe and many other areas far from the tropics. It just shows the unique climates mountain gorillas live in thanks to the mountain ecosystem. It has more in common with Western/Central European climates (without the 4 seasons) than the equatorial Forest other gorillas live in.
