Largest Individuals of any Species - Pckts - 05-03-2016

List your Top 10 big cats of any species, doesn't need to be largest of any big cat, just who YOU think is the largest big cat that you have seen.
Post only one picture and make sure to explain your listing if possible.

I'll Start First
1. The Great Khali of Corbett

*This image is copyright of its original author

He was said to be the giant among giants in Corbett, Corbett is notorious for its large males and he was said to be the largest of his day.

One of the Sabi Sands male leopards

Obviously there are tons of others, but I'm just using ones that appear to be freaks among the more photographed cats. I know we can name numerous Kaziranga Males, Terrai Arc Tigers, Kruger Lions, Okovango or Ngorogoro Lions but the fact remains that they just aren't as well know to me as some other individuals mentioned above.
But I'd love to see what other individuals strike other members of this forum as being "the biggest of the bigs"

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - Sully - 05-04-2016

Claims of 320kg for khali but from the pics the only tiger that looks close to 300kg in the wild is the king of taboda...

*This image is copyright of its original author

I'm not as educated in lions but this fella although I don't know his name, looks a beast...(well claimed from the yuku days to be 300kg, I wouldn't go quite that far)

*This image is copyright of its original author

Ivan from what I've seen seems to be the biggest leopard...

*This image is copyright of its original author

I unfortunately have no clue about jags but guessing the biggest are from the pantanal...

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - Sully - 05-11-2016

That one video of Madla has to be one  of the most iconic tiger films out there. The emerald forest really held gems...including hairyfoot

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - Roflcopters - 05-11-2016

Indeed! that was one of my favorite documentary of all time.

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - tigerluver - 05-12-2016

A while ago, I took the length of the two from the picture and estimated that Amur male by isometry. From the photo, he is 1.17x longer, which equates to 1.6x in weight. Taking the 115 kg average for Amur female in STP, the estimate would be 185 kg for that male.

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - Pckts - 05-12-2016

It's a nice theory, just too hard to tell the size of the female or weight.
But either way, having the camera trap image definitely helps, you were able to get a very comprehensive idea of his size at least compared to the female.

Great job Tigerluver

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - tigerluver - 05-17-2016

@Pckts, the Amur in that photo has chest diameter 1.23x the female, translating to 1.86x the mass and 214 kg with the 115 kg number for the female. Averaging length and chest diameter gives 200 kg for the male, which I guess would be a large Amur male based on what we have now.

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - Pckts - 05-17-2016

Well done, for these days, I would think 200-215kg is definitely a large Amur. Hopefully with proper protection it is a sign of things to come.

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - tigerluver - 05-17-2016

@Pckts referred me to this photo:

Lengthwise, he's 1.18x length without correcting for perspective and angle. Maybe 1.13 would be a corrected value.

In terms of chest diameter, the son 1.20x his mother's size with correction. Perhaps 1.15x can be the number to put here to deal with perspective.

Same methods as above result in a length estimate of 188 kg, chest estimate of 198 kg, averaging 193 kg.

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - Pckts - 05-17-2016

I'd say that's a perfect estimate for a large 2 year old. You can look at his photo below that one and see his growth with te naked eye.
I'll try to get as many of these as I can find tomorrow @tigerluver.
Including jai and t24.
Ranthambhore females are pretty large though so if be curious of the dimorphism isn't as noticeable.

RE: Largest Individuals of any Species - Pckts - 05-17-2016

@tigerluver this is all I can find of Ustad with Noor

Unfortunately that is all I could find, but here are two tigers from ranthambhore , But I think this is X male and Machli. We know machli was a huge tigress and her daughter is confirmed at 170kg at age 3.

Sorry, that's the best I can do @tigerluver

But here are a couple others that I think would be cool

A young Saturn with his female

*This image is copyright of its original author

Then Saturn Vs Gabbar (185kg)

*This image is copyright of its original author

Gabbar is standing more upright and his spine is in a straight line while Saturn has obvious curves to his spine but is closer to the camera

*This image is copyright of its original author

Gabbar close to the camera on this one

And here Katezari vs Saturn

*This image is copyright of its original author

I wish I could find images of their first fight.

Sorry, thats the best I can do.
It's not as easy as I thought, i'll continue to search and see what I can find.

I split the image and straightened the tigers.

He's 1.12x her length and 1.20x her chest diameter.

Length based estimate (if female is 130 kg) is 183 kg and chest diameter estimate (again assuming the female is 130 kg) is 225 kg, averaging 204 kg.
