Thunder male prior to the removal of his snare

RE: The Terai Tiger - Pckts - 04-14-2021

Siddharth Singh
Thunder Male.. .
On a misty winter morning..
One of the most elusive male of Dudhwa..
Practically controls entire Kishanpur Ecotourism area.. Has been confused with Chaltuwa Male by many.. Name given to him for the thunder mark on his face
This frame was made few days before he got caught in a nylon wire snare outside the Sanctuary area which he broke and came back to his safer haven.. The Sharda and Jhadi Habitat
He was camera traped by Dept and an alert was raised after the nylon rope was  observed hanging loosely in his neck.
After a long operation by Vets and Field Staff he was tranqulised and rope removed and he was released back off which a video was released by Forest Dept..
I have been tracking him for four years now and knew his walking patterns ..
Tiger behavior is predictable as its a territorial animal .. How much impact this bad experience has made on his behaviour is what needs to be seen..
Hope to track him soon..

When I asked Siddharth about the massive male weighed by Wasif Jamshed of WII, he messaged me this:

That massive male was the original ring road male in Kishanpur before he moved to Pilibhit. Thunder male has taken over the territory of this massive ring road male (not the new one). The male that died is also from this area (as he killed Beldanda’s cubs) and Chaltua seems to be a conflict point like Mukki of Kanha. Too much traffic, so multiple males are named Chaltua.

His legend lives on....
Great info, thanks for sharing.

did he say anything about him being weighed?

RE: The Terai Tiger - Ashutosh - 04-16-2021

@Khan85, nope nothing about the weight. Just that he is the biggest male he has ever seen.

RE: The Terai Tiger - Roflcopters - 04-17-2021

so the huge ring road male was the tiger they weighed and thunder is the male that we were referring to as “Chaltua” and the actual Chaltua male was the cub killer and the tiger that died? huge shoutout to @Ashutosh for gathering all this info. keep up the good work.

@woshiniya

any idea who this huge male is?

RE: The Terai Tiger - Ashutosh - 04-17-2021

@Roflcopters, there is no actual Chaltua male. Multiple males are called Chaltua male. Chaltua is sort of like Mukki in Kanha, too much traffic (but, worse). Also, Thunder has taken over the territory of Ring Road male in Kishanpur, not to be confused with the new Ring Road male which @Rage2277 has posted about.

There was also another death in Chaltua, this time of a female (about 8 years old, no foul play). He said that her pugmarks were smaller than Beldanda’s. And, because this is the sugarcane cutting time, it has meant more conflict not just with humans but with other tigers as they search for new space in Kishanpur and Pilibhit.
