RE: Coalitions of Kruger National Park - Tonpa - 08-31-2021

I feel like up to 40% of the male lions in the Kruger are called "Krugers biggest male lions"

Its impossible to tell, unless you compare them side by side or take measurments.. In fact majority of males are very similar in size.

They those words are overused a lot, but particularly by the random internet users. When they are used by the people who has seen many different lions on life in the wild it in general different story and when they say some lion is big then probaly he is. Not always tho as guides are comparing size of direct individuals only to the other individuals they know, have seen like in Manyeleti Red Road male was said to be the biggest lion around untill even bigger Mbiri male showed up. Kinda "there is always a bigger fish".

Even if some people see all those lions in person, its impossible to tell who is bigger, because they dont see them side by side and size difference is minimal..

Its the same as we can see them on videos/photos and then judge who is bigger..

Im quite sure Scar Mbiri is not bigger then RRM or DM Avoca, in fact, they are prob very close in size and impossible to tell if they dont stand side by side..

Scar is not even taller no longer then his brother Shaka, he is just more bulky with bigger head and mane, so he looks bigger..

Leeubron males, Shishangeni males, South Shishangeni are definitely bigger than most as guys who see lions all over kruger agree on that at least

Male lions are always overrated. Constantly being build up to be the kings of this or the biggest or strongest that and such.
I wont take too much stock in it. Size isn't everything.

Even in a single coalition like Birminghams or De Laportes you can see big variations in size and there are just 4 males to compare in each. If you would take lets say 100 random adult male lions from Kruger to compare then varitation would be even much bigger in such group.

It is not, especially what it comes to photos in which angle can make one lion look much bigger than he really is. At vidoes you can compare only lions walking side by side so only within one coalition. I do not really even want to coment on what some poeple do what is taking some random photo of some individual (for example RRM) and the picture of some other individual (like lets say Nhenha for example) and trying to compare them without any reference point which is for me straight up dumb and makes no sense what so ever.

I wonder how did you make comparison of those 3 with each others lol. Anyway Manyeleti guide which seen all those individuals on life said otherwise.

Maputo male drinking last week.
He and Kumana male do seem to have some type of agreement now. They were both seen feeding together without much aggression, which is good.
