Masorini males!

Powerful capture of the dominant force at Phalaborwa. These two since a very young age have secured this area and remained the dominant males. They have had many males intrude their territory but have held strong, but now both males have reached their prime and it clearly shows!

The loyal brother of the Mooiplaas males!!
"Next morning our early rising was once again rewarded. This time we got to see the "brother" of the mating lion on our way to Mooiplaas Dam, about three kilometres from the place where we found the lions mating the previous day. We saw too little of these lions over the two days that we encountered them to have any idea of their pride dynamics. The interesting bit for me was that the one male seemed to have monopolised mating rights while the second “brother” kept an eye on proceedings from an appropriate distance. Mating takes place on average every 20 minutes and lasts for five days during which not much else is of importance for them. Subsequently the condition of the mating male deteriorates steadily over that time. It would be a good guess to say that neither brother had any food during this period, yet the actively mating male is showing visible loss of condition while the brother loyally standing guard is looking very fit."

That's look like the Black dam sub-adult male.

There were definitely 2 when they first showed up in Manyeleti, so his partner is probably not far either.

This duo is doing well for older males in charge of a pride.  Being able to hold off the 4 Shish Males is pretty impressive for just two males arguably past their prime.  Of course, for how long, is another story.  It could be sooner or later.  The Avoca/Matimba bloodlines are the strongest right now in the private reserves.

The Nsemanis are in charge of one of the biggest prides in all of the greater Kruger area.  I hope to hear more updates of this coalition and their potential successors, the Shish Males.

He’s a half brother to the Avoca/Giraffes. He looks like a clone of Ross Male “The Good”.

If the Rockfig Male was born in 2009... then one of the original Ross Males is his father. I.e. Tyson and Fabio.
The 3 new "Ross males" took over in late 2010.
