Oh tnx, then i first time got it right, but got confused.. So male with distinguished face is Pretty Boy. RE: Coalitions of Kruger National Park - sik94 - 04-27-2021 I think males within a coalition know full well what state that coalition is in, that's why they run to aid each other in fighting instead of every lion for himself. That would defeat the purpose of a coalition if they aren't acting as a unit. They clearly stayed in mejaine to hold the tiny piece they seemed to consider their territory with the lone lioness. It back-fired but that just tells you the vurhamis weren't the smartest lions and refused to leave that area altogether even after multiple casualties. Most coalitions would have seen what they were about to mess with after the first casualty would have moved else where. The mejaines aren't ross males or northern avocas, they are a couple tiers higher. Lots of prey and lots of lionesses make this area sought after by males. Because competition is huge, males need to come well prepared before trying to take over this territory. Male lions (and cheetahs as well) form coalitions with other males (often but not always brothers/littermates). The larger the coalition, the stronger and the larger the territory they can control. But having more males within a coalition also means sharing females and food between more individuals. One of the most famous lion coalitions I have heard of were the Mapogos who took over the entire Sabi Sands in 2006. The story of the Mapogos reminded me of these boys. Yes they have been sighted but lower than usual near the Shingwedzi rest camp! Not sure how cohesive of a unit they were, as I don't seem to read as much about them as one would expect of a coalition of that size. From videos I have seen, seems they are one of, if not the, largest known coalitions. RE: Coalitions of Kruger National Park - Brahim - 04-27-2021 There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the skybeds. We didn’t really see much RE: Coalitions of Kruger National Park - Tr1x24 - 04-27-2021 Skybeds where split over large territory, 3 went east around Timbavati Picnic Spot, rest where around Tamboti and Talamati, H7 road (now territory of Mbiris) but they lost few members there very early. But yeah its very little know about them.. |
