Rarely Seen Gorilla Fight - Pckts - 01-20-2016

You can feel the power of these two big boys when they collide into each other and strike one another.

Amazing find mate. I've read a lot about them, and seen pictures of the amazing kind of damage they can cause, but never saw a full contact fight, merely the shows they put to avoid fighting. And it was wonderful.

The first video really gives you an idea of the power they have. They collide like two cars, it's an awesome spectacle even if it's with captive specimens.

I'm not really into primates, but damn that was a great deal of damage there!

Here is the other video that I thought I posted...

If the zoo keepers know that they fight, then why are they not separated?

RE: Rarely Seen Gorilla Fight - Pckts - 01-21-2016

I was curious about that as well.
My guess is they are brothers and once they hit maturity they decided the space was only big enough for one. Hopefully the keepers have realized this and shipped one off to another zoo which is usually the case.

@Pckts I know mate. The two links were exactly the same, so I deleted one, it make no sense to leave it there. This other is great as well, thanks.

I found this here Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium:
As Kijito—yes, you may remember him—and Tatu recently proved, even male gorillas are super competitive.

The two were caught duking it out in a video that was posted to YouTube three months ago by a visitor and, just earlier this week, started gaining attention. Dan Houser, our curator of large mammals, recently addressed the behavior of our two boys, two of three bachelors in their habitat, saying “it was more of a shoving match” than a fight.

“On the gorilla scale, it’s no more than one kid pushing another kid. It’s how they establish who is dominant and who is submissive.”

In case you were wondering…

Just a shoving match, kids pushing each other. Can you imagine if this was for real?.... Amazing animals.

RE: Rarely Seen Gorilla Fight - Pckts - 01-22-2016

It's always a risky game, trying to judge how serious an animal is. They have the capabilities to go to far greater limits very quickly. If it becomes more than a game will the keepers be able to separate them in time?

I think they are taking a risk keeping them together but that's just my opinion. I know very little of gorilla behavior.

That sure is frightening....I can only imagine the power behind those punches. I wouldn't want to close to them at all.
