Brown bear hunts down a caribou in Alaska. He catches the caribou at 4:40 and then drags it to the shore and there he ragdolls caribou at 5:30 giving some show of strength, caribou seems to be still alive. Then he drags caribou off the shore and eats. Another bear approaches and some chasing/skirmish at 8:20, no fight visible though.

Judging by these videos, bears killed their preys by simply biting anywhere on their body and then violently shake it. How long the prey remains alive depends on which area the bear targeted, if it is around the neck area the bear will violently shake its head and that will result to damaged nerves and spinal cord that will paralyzed the prey.

Usually a lot of mauling when bear catches bigger prey animal, clawing flanks while biting neck or back (spine area). It can be seen for instance in posting #256. Similar situations have been filmed, bear hangs on clawing and biting all the time while prey animal tries to get rid of it. If/when falling situations changes to pretty hopeless. Animals able to flee have usually big wounds on flanks from claws.

One short article from Finland concerning a moose killed by a brown bear. Article doesn´t tell clearly if moose was a bull or cow. Moose was found on sand road in the woods. A person from local gamekeeping association (I´m not sure how to translate but that should be close) was called to check the carcass and he verified, that moose was killed by a bear. Moose had been mauled badly by the bear and also bear claw markings from the fight were visible on road surface. Bear had been disturbed most likely by approaching car and it had left the carcass on the road.
Carcass was found August 8th 2020, in Kannus, Finland.

This is another case from Heinävesi, Finland. Older one from April 2004, a bear had killed a full grown moose cow on the ice of the lake and ate it partially before carcass was found.

One case from Finnish Lapland, August 2005. Brown bear had killed an adult moose cow and calf.
Quote: "While radiotracking capercaillies Tarmo Kylli, one of Varrio staff members, found remnants of female moose (Alces alces) and calf on the foothill of Nuorttitunturi ("Nuortti fell"). Based on the signs in the remnants and on the surroundings (for instance large stones were turned over) he concluded that brown bear had managed to kill both a small sized female and her calf. The remnants were less than one month old."

Person who found this tells, that bears kill there yearly couple of moose. A person from local gamekeeping association came to have a closer look and he found remains of two moose and tracks of two different bears. Here also photo of bear excrement found close the carcass.
