Yup Fantasma despite being old he was a real powerhouse with many scars and not allowing the approach of any other male in his vicinity for a period of almost a year in that reserve in Southern Pantanal, according to Onçafari he spent most of his life patrolling, marking his territory and warding off invasors. This video was nearing the time he disappeared and he was never seen again and the arrival of Xavier male which was younger and very robust as well, some say they probably had an ugly fight but there's no proof of it, Onçafari claims Fantasma had abdominal flaccidity and very worn out dentition indicating old age. Onçafari believes Fantasma died of natural cases, and Xavier after his reign in the Refúgio Ecológico Caiman along the years, Xavier changed his territory to the Northern Pantanal out of Onçafari's studying area. Elusive cats.

I wonder how many northern and southern males go back and forth?
It'd be great if they were able ID the same jag in both areas one day.

Yeah and It will depend on the individual, After perceiving a very disputed area with males around some males who are not in the conditions to compete for that area anymore will seek for calmer areas with less competition and that could be the moment of these ''transitions'' back and fourth.

I think the best thing to do to catch the best infos of such elusive cats that can ''vanish in a blink of an eye'' at any moment is if all the conservation projects who works in that same exact biome in both north and south sections teamed up and shared all infos as many as possible, not saying there isn't these collaborations but if it was a permanent one with ALL projects involved with one duty ( tracking, monitoring jags 24/7 ) it would definitely boost our ''tracking power'' on these cats and it would be easier to know ''who left and who stays''. but even though it wouldn't be easy because these biomes put together here in Brazil are literally like a maze to us, they're too dense, vast and despite of Cerrado and Caatinga having some open areas in comparison to the others. They're all tricky to track.

I guess this answer's the question of if a Jaguar can prey on a large Green Anaconda.
