- Saw one of the Birminghams sleeping by a nearby pan, we went back to him later, he was awake by then and was roaring for us.

"Always great to have male Lions on Nkorho... having them roaring next to the vehicle just makes it extra special. We had 2 of the Birmingham males around the lodge last week."

That perfect Birmingham stare. Love these males. They always know how to make perfect photographic opportunities.

@Vinodkuman:

About #413: agree with you. I find them particularly photogenic ! Bravo to the photographer who had to approach them into the darkness of the night. The night is the wild natural born killers' coat...

RE: The Birmingham Males - Gamiz - 12-06-2016

Two of the Birmingham Males were located up in the North on Saturday morning. Although they spend a great deal of time with the Nkuhuma & Styx pride, their territory does extend into the KNP and covers a few prides we dont view regularly anymore.

Nkorho Rangers:
07 December
Morning drive.
- Our morning began with a big surprise as Inkanyeni was resting close to our Honeymoon suite. She moved north and we could hear the Impala going crazy. Before we could get onto the safari vehicles, a BIRMINGHAM male walked past our main gate to the lodge in the direction where the Impala were alarm calling. We followed the male for a while and saw Inkanyeni on a termite mound staring at the male lion. She kind of lost interest in the lion and she kept looking down into the dry river.

A BIRMINGHAM (Tinyo) male performs a Flehmen Grimace. He pulls his top lip back and pushes a scent into the organ of the Jacobson in order for him to determine more about a scent (such as whether a female is receptive to mating, or if a rival male has entered his territory).
