When we were goin on the safari looking for any tiger or leopard specifically in bandipur,suddenly i stopped the jeep and looked in my binoculars and it was surprising to see this male leopard sitting alone several metres away......that was memorable first sighting

Leopards at Kabini was always jinxed to me. Had not seen one till today in Leopard Country, Kabini. The jinx was broken with the sighting of a leipard head on road. The roars of the leopard was a treat to watch. Was gifted with 2 Male Leopards when we waited. This guy was the challenger to the other male, but the challenge ended in failure with the dominant male leopard of that territory holding ground.

Would I be correct in saying melanistic leopards make up 8% of the indian leopard population, in contrast to the 4% in african leopards? I did hear this a long time ago and I think it was on Nat Geo Wild which isn't the most reliable source.
I also read an article about when a rare normal coated leopard wandered an area of a full black leopard population which I didn't know existed. I posted it a long time ago on my google+ but I can't find it.

Some simple google searches bare nothing, even going to Nat Geo Wild I found nothing. If anyone has figures I would be interested to see them.

I was fortunate to see this elusive beauty at Gir. This was during my first safari into Gir in the evening. It was not a Lion, but a Leopard which I first saw at Gir smile emoticon
This was a huge male . Got a few seconds view and could take just this one decent shot.
