Yup, couple of days ago both were seen together in MalaMala and were reported that they are not looking good.
May be the photo is HB, both are together now

Age is a factor but they are younger than the Majingilane's, maybe not anymore but they were more then able to take over a pride two years ago.

After ousted by BBoys, they lost styx pride. But they were dominant over Tsalala pride and also newly formed Kambula Pride.
The current 5 subs (18 month old+) of Tsalalas are sired by them also possibly the 6-month old cubs of Tailless female as well.
They had few run-ins with Matshapiris.. but during Dec end 2016/Jan beginning 2017, Matshapiris are able to caught one of them off guard and injured, resulted in leaving their prides and land.
I would say they could have stayed with tsalala pride..

They did hold territory inbetween the majingalane and matshpiri males territory but eventually had to give into the pressure of the matshpiris. They even fathered 5 cubs with the two tsalala females which are now nearing sub-adults. They have been nomadic for only around 6-8 months. The matimbas being only 2 and old don't have the numbers of the majingalanes to keep younger coalitions off their backs. Also, size doesn't make a difference, numbers are what matter.

MALAMALA TODAY: October 8th & 9th. The 2 Avoca males were viewed yesterday near Styx Waterhole and this morning they were found in the vicinity of a Clarendon male and a buffalo kill along Dudley Lookout. All three lions were sporting fresh battle wounds and it was the older male who was feeding on the kill.
However, he may just have won battle and not the war as the Avoca males, who spent the day at a nearby pan, were making their way back towards the male.
The other Clarendon male (hairy belly) was viewed about 1km further south and the Eyrefield pride were only a few hundred meters away from him.

I don't know why Matimbas were not together off late, which is the reason for their downfall.
It may lead to their death as well.
If not Avocas, other coilation (Say Mantimahles) of at least 2 males has come across a lone male.. would have mauled to death.
Earlier as well HB was able to get away from BBoy (Nsuku) as BBoy is also alone at that point of time.

Well the matimbas are old but they are not shy about fighting with younger coalitions over a kill if necessary. I will disagree about not sticking together being their downfall, they would have had to get physical with the matshpiris to keep their territory which wouldn't have turned out well. They need to stick together but being nomads they always run the risk of running into bigger a coalition.

it would make sense that they don't stay together all the time if they would be within their territory. But as nomadic males they should stick together. But on the other hand, we are talking about lions. Their behaviour doesn't have to make sense..maybe they feel like they're within their territory. Nevertheless it is sad that one or both of them are going to get killed soon by rival males, if they continue with their current behaviour.

A fully grown male lion, who we think is the “Hairy Belly” Clarendon male, was seen this morning having good rest in the morning sun. He does seem to have few bad battle wounds along his spine and doesn’t seem to have eaten in a couple days. Is anyone able to confirm his ID?

I call BS on it.
He was very often seen alone with some other pride, I don't remember the name of it, and had simply separated from his brothers.
In a place like the Kruger park that's so big, it isn't a surprise that he vanished but that doesn't mean he was hunted or killed by poachers.
If the northern Matimbas were slowly picked apart and killed(2 at least) despite being three, then the odds of it happening to a lone, older male amplify.
