Mapogo coalition
The elderly boys are looking great, even the one that got injured in battle with Selati males is recovering well. On one morning we found all three members of Mapogo lions trailing on a scent of a small buffalo herd. The buffalo had moved too far out of the range, the boys had to suspend their mission and rest for the day.

We followed up on them the next morning and located them feeding on a buffalo kill. Boys will always be boys! Where there is food or lioness there will be always an argument between the big boys. Mr T and Makhulu Mapogo are growling at each other while eating. The injured male is keeping his distance from these squabbles.

Most likely a screen shot from this well known video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qnZliudxEo, somewhere between 0:31 and 0:32. The video also shows how Makhulu turns to confront Mr. T who then backs off.

In the absence of evidence, it seems you're qualifying yourself as an"expert".
Vizions wasn't "making" any scenario, far from it.
He was merely talking about what most likely happened that day, based on the little evidence there is. And I second that, because it's what I've gathered from my investigation.

Mating Season has arrived

The mating of the lions has been unusual this month with one particular incident where one of the Sand River females whose cubs are 2½ years old has broken away and mated with the Mapogo. It is highly unusual that she will fall pregnant; however it is probably just her way of keeping the males content and stopping them from getting frustrated with the growing cubs that are all male.
The Xhumungwe female is still mating with the Mapogo, however doesn’t appear to be falling pregnant. The rest of her pride should start coming into oestrus any day now and as soon as they do, she will most probably conceive and there should be wonderful viewing of cubs in the not so distant future.
Three of the Mapogo appear to be moving further south on a more regular basis. This is probably due to the fact that they can sense that the Xhumungwe females are coming into season. It is wonderful to have these big males in the area so frequently.

Mapogos Hunted Down a Rhino
News from the bush at Savanna Lodge

Summer has arrived and the days are hot with sporadic cooler periods. October is usually the month when the first rains arrive, hence everybody is waiting in anticipation for some much needed rain. The bush is exceptionally dry, drier than it has ever been this time of the year.
The guests have been very privileged as four lions of the Mapogo Pride have been visiting the area on a regular basis. In the middle of the month, the Mapogo killed a young male rhino which is a very unusual occurrence, as lions very seldom take on rhino, however when you have a group of six males like this one, the events are unpredictable. These male lions have been competing for the attention of the Ximungwe female who has brought herself into oestrous yet again. She has been mating with these male lions for the past six months and has still not fallen pregnant. This is a good indication that lionesses can regulate their own ovulation. It appears as if this adult female is waiting for the other young female members of the Ximungwe pride to be old enough to breed and conceive before she falls pregnant. This will ensure that the cubs are all born approximately at the same time and will grow up being the same size and age.

Mapogo & Ximungwe pride on the move…….

For the past month the Mapogo have been seen on a regular basis in the camps’ traversing area maybe because two of the Ximungwe females are coming into season and are receptive to the males. Another draw-card was two large buffalo herds in the area and the lions have made a number of buffalo kills this month offering plenty of action for the guests. Most of these kills have been young animals, so have not lasted for any length of time hence the camp has seen fantastic interaction between the lions and the buffalo, where on several occasions the herds of buffalo have chased the lions off, but persistence prevails and normally ends with at least one buffalo being killed.
As already mentioned, mating with the Ximungwe pride continues and hopefully at least two, maybe three, of the Ximungwe pride are pregnant. The Ximungwe females caused a bit of a stir this month when they moved right to the north of Savanna which is unfamiliar territory for them. For one day, they also moved east out of the territory into an area they have never been to before. Everybody waited in anticipation to see whether they would return or whether this would be a permanent territorial change. Fortunately, they returned the following day, killed a waterbuck and returned to their original territorial area.
