This one is Solo. Yesterday in facebook some people were talking about who was the father, some said the Rollercoaster males and some said other males. Edit: the Split rock males.(I'll try to look for the name).

I agree, with @chaos. @Pantherinae, @"Majingilane" and @vizions have made wildfact good source of Lion information. We have plenty of tiger fans here and lot of tiger photos and information but seeing Lions fans and good infromation feels very good. Unlike other forums and places we are happily enjoying each other contribution and no childish fighting and debating.
Big congratulation to all members. Please spread the good words about wildfact forum and invite others to join us on here, so that we can get and discuss lot of other information on Lion, Tiger and other animals

@Majingilane I thought that was Solo not Freddy. freddy seems to have a larger and longer head, compared to Solo when they where togheter. but you're probably right.
I was told that Solo might be fatherd by one of the mapogos some said Mr.T or Kinky Tail. some said one of the other four.

@Pantherinae By no means I want to spoil the thread, so I will leave just this, explaining the little confontation between the Kruger male and the Spartans(Solo and Cleo).

Now, to another thing, I read some time ago that once, Makhulu helped Solo protecting him from the other males and even from other females.
If that's true, it would be incredible because usually males kill other males that are not their offspring. Another thing to love about Big Mak.

If it's true that Makhulu protected Solo, I would serriously think Solo must his offspring. I don't think the Mapogos would never let another young male survive. and espesially not protect him and risk getting injured themself.

Solo was the son of the Split rock males. The Split rock males are the lions featuring in the Nat geo documentary "Predators in peril" if some of you have seen it. Solo had such a strange life, probably the most complex of any lions i have read about. He has gone through so much during his life. Here's a resume of it.
Solo was born in a litter of 4 (3males, 1female) in july 2005 and he was the only one to make it out. He spends the first years of his life fleeing the Rollercoaster coalition who were trying to take over the Tsalala tribe, his brothers and sister were killed by those lions. When Solo was about 4 months old, his mother was badly beaten up by a clean of hyenas leaving her with no tail.
Then the Mapogos came in mid 2008. His mother and aunts protected him from them for a long time, but when the Tsalala tribe was finally taken over he was forced to leave.
He started to follow the Eyrefield Pride (natural pride of the Mapogos) and trying to scavenge their kills early 2009. The pride male of the Eyrefield pride was non other that the surviving Rollercoaster male (the one who killed his brothers/sisters) and despite all odds, the two of them formed a coalition. The Rollercoaster male was an old lion and probably saw in Solo a chance to hold the tribe a little longer and resist the Mapogo attacks who were about to come.
In april 2009, the Mapogo started their takeover of the Eyrefield Pride. The tribe and the 2 males were forced to leave the area and stay under a low profile. His partner, the Rollercoaster male succumbed to old age and passed away early January 2010 and left Solo as the lone pride male.
In late 2010, the arrival of the Majingilane started to put also pressure on Solo and he was forced to leave the tribe with the 2 others sub-adults in july 2011. The trio started their nomadic life. One of them (Leo) was in poor conditions and died early.
Down to 2, they started a takeover of the Selati pride who was under control of the lone KNP male (Freddy). They mated with some females but in the end it was the Sand River males who took over the pride ousting the KNP male and Solo's coalition.
Solo's partner Cleo was killed in a fight with the Selatis male lions early 2014, and Solo ended up alone again wandering around in the south of the Sabi Sands and in the Kruger NP.
Then, some photos came up of him and Freddy (his former rival the KNP male) together and we realized that those 2 had formed a coalition in the KNP.

Such a great story, I guess there are no such things as "grudges" when it comes to the wild. Survival is the only factor and it drives all. The need to form a coalition is more important than the idea of holding a grudge.
I guess the saying "don't cry over spilled milk" started in the wild.

He was one of the youngest Mapogo, born in 2001 and also was one of the smallest. Here in a pic with Dreadlocks we can see the size difference between both. Kinky tail is the one in the front.

But that didn't stopped him. He was also one of the most agressive of the six Mapogo males, and eventually that agression got him and Mr.T in trouble with their older brothers, that kicked them out to the eastern part of their huge territory.
Here, now in their new territory they brought new chaos but also this allowed them to have access to females and sire cubs of their own.

If you hang around facebook in the Mapogo page, there is still a lot of people that feels hatred towards the Majingilane and also feels bad about him, about the way he died. To that I think, ¿so what?. ¿Is there a better way to die for a male lion?.
I think there is not. He died as he lived. With blood in his fangs and a roar of defiance against anyone foolish enough to stand against the Mighty Mapogos.
