Dongo knows he's photogenic and pauses to pose for the paparazzi!

You will often find jackals in close proximity to lions, leopards and cheetahs. The big cats are often followed by these small canids. Not because the jackals are awe-struck and think they're in the presence of a super-star, but because they hope to benefit from the scraps leftover after the big cat has hunted and had his fill.

A bit of a sobering thought for when you're the subject of public adulation and run the risk of a swollen head!

@1234 Who is Dongo and what coalition is he a part of? Did his coalition run Blackie/Lipstick off?

Dongo is a male son of Ron (Notch Boys), one of the 5 Rekero males coalition (also known as Rekero Boys), all grandsons of Notch.

I can't help you with your second question.

Nope, Lipstick and Blackie were run off by two other lions called as Olbarani and Lolprait
Rekro boys had a fight with Musketeers recently, they wounded Sikio and Scarface.. but nothign serious. (This was few months ago)

Five lionessess , two grown cubs and two male lions..now we have other 7 new born cubs making them a pride of sixteen... scarface 2 however was limping yesterday but doesn't seem to be a severe injury.i will keep monitoring and keep you posted."

The First Musketeer...

This is Scar, one of the Four Musketeers, the other three being Morani, Sikio and Hunter. They took over from Romeo and Clawed of the Marsh Pride at Musiara in 2011, then left the pride a few years later, taking up residence near Serena crossing.

Scar is less mobile now (arthritis) and can be seen struggling on some days. Meanwhile, Morani, Sikio and Hunter are often seen as far away as Rekero and Entim. Occasionally Scar is seen across the river on the Serena side whenever the Mara River is low enough to cross.
Scar is named so on account of his missing eyelid, sustained long before he arrived at Musiara in 2011. Stories of its origin vary between a fight with another lion or a human inflicted spear wound but we will never know for sure.

All four are getting old now, approaching their twelfth years, and thus in the twilights of their lives. The Maasai Mara will be a poorer place without them – until inevitably they are supplanted by a new generation of males.
