Karibu and Rafiki have very recently killed all of their own cubs. This is very odd behaviour, but there might have been other males around while they were mating with the Cheli females, giving Karibu and Rafiki the slightest doubt of fatherhood.
Pictured is Karibu with the Cheli female Kali. Kali still has her two male cubs, also pictured, 13 months old, fathered by the Cheli males. They are still depended on Kali but keep their distance from her when she is interacting with the males. As soon as she can get away, she tends to her cubs, making sure they are fed, before going back to the males.

This huuuuuge Sand River male (supposedly) had travelled for quite a distance (>50km) when we spotted him in the Mara. This is the exact moment when he spotted a lioness by herself and began chasing her for approximately 500 metres - I presume to mate.

She wasnt having any of it and ran away after which she sat down about 100 metres away from him as they both caught their breath. This love was definitely hostile but I love the look in his eyes - so much strength, so much focus, so much determination. But that day he learnt an important lesson - the lady always wins

@Tshokwane :

About #1193: This male traveled for quite a distance, > 50 km... by always staying in its own territory ? Without defying other males coalitions ? He clearly wanted this female very much ! Nothing else existed for it...

It's taken me a few visits to get this picture, over about five years I think, but he kept eluding me, or he just wasn't so interested. This time though he granted me one look, a glance of barely a second, but I was ready.
