Blackie & Lipstick (4KM Males)

A male lion coalition, from the Mara and our Kenya photosafari: http://www.grantatkinson.com/ withEyes on Africa. These males where keeping a close eye on some spotted hyaena nearby. Image with my Canon EF 100-400L IS ii and 5Dmk4. Shutter speed 1/250sec at f8, iso 3200. Handheld.

Finding myself very impressed with my Canon 80D image quality. This image was taken before the sun had properly risen, in Kenya's Mara region and I was forced to use very high iso sensitivity settings to achieve the shutter speed I needed. It seems the best crop-sensor (APS-C) Canon camera in low light to me so far. Of course I would prefer to use my full-frame Canon bodies in such situations but it is nice to see how good the less expensive bodies are getting. The big male lion was on the move early, and on the edge of his territory, in search of females. Captured with Canon 80D and EF 100-400L ff4.5-5.6 IS ii. Shutter speed 1/200sec at f5.6. Shot in raw and some noise reduction applied in processing. Handheld.

Few days ago I saw Blackie in a very bad shape. Thought age was catching up and their days may be numbered.
Good to see them in  good condition. Love the manes of these Boys.

Apart from this coalition, Musketeers,  Lolprait and Oboloroni  & Sopa boys.. are only coalitions who are not Notch Descendants
4KM boys, Musketeers and Oboloroni&Lolprait  are all past their prime.
