Lenkoe and his 5 bros starting to take over Offbeat Pride from Olope and Olbarikoi! Lenkoe is impressive. Lolparpit and Olbarnoti sons from the Enkoyanai pride! Heres the video I found on youtube...

Kibogoyo and his mysterious neck injury

Looking at the first two pictures, one might think that this male lion has been wearing a collar for quite some time. You can clearly see the lack of mane around his neck. Especially in the upper neck area there is a clear gap. However, a collar is not the cause.

Someone had sent me photos of Kibogoyo with a relatively fresh wound in the upper neck area. This wound looked narrow and deep. Spontaneously I thought of a snare trap and also the optics fit, this is how a lion looks, which could free itself from a snare trap or was freed. But it could also be already healing bite wounds from other lions that were visible in the photos sent to me.

In the third photo, the now healed wound is still clearly visible.

Anyway, Kibogoyo is lucky to be alive. He either was able to free himself from a snare trap (I talked to a Senior Warden of the Mara Triangle and he was not aware of a report about a snared Lion) or he escaped other Males who had him already by his neck.

The fierce King Maridadi watching his kingdom in great shots!

He is known for his fierceness against others and a great father for his cubs, taking care and spending time with them, he was once seen expelling the lionesses and pulling the kill for his cubs and guarding them until they finished! Lions are great creatures!

Attacking the female you're mating with, not the best way to make a first impression.

Chongo & Kibogoyo - two Faces of the same Story
All of the Bila Shaka Males have lost mane-size over the last year. While Doa and Chongo still look handsome Koshoke, Kibogoyo and Kiok look like battered veterans just being 7 years old.
Kiok never developed a decent mane for some reason and there is not much left now. Koshoke and Kibo never had a really big manes (like Olbarnoti there likely sire) and lost some of it, esp Kibo lost a lot around his neck as a result of a nasty injury (subject to a seperate post).
Mane-size is only one piece of the story as Koshoke, Kibo and Kiok also sport countless scars in their faces. Interstingly they are all physically in top-condition and none of them is sporting scars or healed bite-marks on their bodies. All their fighting obviously targeted single Males, young Coalition as well as themselves. Doa and Chongo obviously choose their battles more wisely.
So why did these Males lose mane-size while they are looking very healthy otherwise? Maybe the constant stress of taking over new grounds and Prides is the reason? Maybe.

True that! A little too aggro id say! Lol! Maybe this female likes it rough or maybe Lenkoe knows she's just trying to distract him from the Cubs using sex! Lol!

Our dear last standing musketeer, Morani seen earlier today (Aug. 17). He’s looking good and healthy considering his age. Reports indicate he is still on look out area, near ashnil Mara. Always warms my heart to see him doing well.

"A near collusion of 4 Boys from Maranorth conservancy and 5 from Lemek rumble deeply in a show of fight over territory. Lucky, the MNC boys took refuge in a nearby bush. Yesterday they rehearsed the fight and Kini was injured. Wishing the boy quick recovery."

Good morning with a great news about King Earless. After he disappeared and was not seen for nearly two years, and many believed that he was dead, he recently appears, in great condition. King Earless is one of the last sons of the legend Notch.
