Scarface's farewell look today before he leaves us to heaven, leaving behind all the beautiful memories that we have always been happy with. Your legacy will live long in Mara and you will remain the most famous icon of all.
Words fail us in times of sadness, RIP Legend.

Enkuroto and Spikey from Lookout Pride battle with one of the Black Rock Pride's males who was found trespassing the territory with one lioness.
The Black Rock male was found badly injured. The vet has been notified to take the necessary intervention.
Fortunately, his back is intact, though it seems his genital is severely damaged. Let's hope he will make a full recovery.

Scarface and his old friends...

" The oldest lion in the Kenyan Mara, 14-year-old Scarface, known for a scar across his eye and loved and discussed passionately by wildlife enthusiasts and big cat nerds from all over the world, breathed his last on June 11. The lion, accorded an unofficial but undisputed legendary status by experts and enthusiasts alike, held a territory of 400 sq km. Scarface is reported by the World Heritage Species to have died of natural causes. "We are heartbroken to announce that the legendary 'Scarface' passed away today of natural causes in his beloved Mara home," a social media statement by the group reads. According to images shared online and news reports, the lion had grown underweight and sickly in the period leading up to his death. "

New video from Rob the Ranger of an unidentified nomadic male lion following a lioness and youngster from the Enkoyonai pride (encounter occurred in October 2020). The young one has exceptionally distinctive spots for a lion of that size (particularly noticeable at 1:36):

MONIKO/SANKAI MALES.

Three brother coalition were patrolling and marching towards the photographer’s vehicle! They are the three adult sons sired by the famous duo Jesse and Frank, born in Offbeat pride at Mara North. They are quite often referred to as “Moniko males” by locals but to make it accurate, we should call them Sankai (Moniko breakaway) pride males, or simply “Offbeat boys”. They look as handsome as their fathers!

As we have known one of them (in the middle in this photo) sadly lost his life to human-wildlife conflicts beginning of this year (at that time already got badly injured due to fighting with Fig Tree boys) . The other two brothers are still managing to hold both Sankai pride and Fig Tree breakaway pride at Talek area now. They also got formal names! The dark-mane boy in the back, well known for being aggressive to vehicles, is named “Olope” as he’s the Mr. Grumpy. The one at front, pretty much a mini-Jesse, is named “Olbarikoi” which means blonde/brown hair. We hope these two remaining brothers learn to stay as close to each other as possible to defend their land. We won’t be able to see all three boys walking like this any more, but thanks to photographer Matt, this image is to memorize the good times when they were together!

A really good video, with a ton of background on the 5 Black Rock Boys, including info on their fathers losing their pride to the Notches, and taking us right up to this fight. I was unaware of it, but the lion who got mauled had just killed (at least in the video, unsure of the exact timeline of events) a sub adult of the Lookout Pride, which is also included in the video.

Black Rock Male Oloborr is getting better and that he has superficial scars after his vet treatment. At least, he is fine and that his genital is intact, which means he can still spread his genes.

Astonishing that they missed his genitals, he got pretty torn up in the general region. In fact in the video, it looks almost as if the one who was working on the back side area was chewing away directly on his genitals.
