She had been trying to make a kill for almost 3 days before she was spotted with her #prey. For a tiger, appx. 5% to 10% of the hunt results in an actual kill.

The Andhari river!
Translated from local language, it simply means a place filled with darkness!
The jungles gods must have trusted her with so many of their secrets, for her course is covered with tall teaks, and the banks with thick bamboos, which make it absolutely certain that no piece of water or earth is exposed to any sunlight, thus making her a perfect place to tuck away the mysteries of the forest! And even she, living up to the expectations of those immortal powers, seldom lets any of the secrets slip through her thicket.
On that hot June evening though, she had been kind enough to let us take a glance at the eternal treasures! Wandering along her bank, we came across a small opening which let us take a peek at the river which otherwise would have been impossible. To our surprise, what we found there was a forest giant – a male Gaur – who had slipped off the unforgiving rocky walls of the river bed and had broken its leg. It was on its side, making attempts at getting up, but failing constantly, and wearing itself out in summer winds! Such an unlucky individual! Certain for a slow death, starving for food and water!
As we looked further through the opening, we saw a bright patch of orange, contrasting beautifully against the dark, walking a few hundred metres further up the river. It didn’t take us long to realise that it was the queen herself, and we followed her along, wondering how she hasn’t noticed this easy meal yet. We only had gone a small distance, when, suddenly, our nostrils were filled with the unmistakable odour of rotting flesh! Having already lost the sight of the tigress to the bamboos, we kept on moving in the direction of the scent. The winding road took us to yet another opening, through which, a small puddle of water was visible. Moving ourselves around, and tilting our heads to get a clearer view, when we finally saw the puddle in its whole, we realised that there lay a half consumed carcass of another Gaur, resting in the water, rotting, and smelling! This is where the tigress was headed, and it didn’t take her long to reach her meal. As she devoured her kill in front of us, I couldn’t help but feel for the first Gaur, as for the one in front of us, death had already brought the relief from pain, but for him, the horrors of watching its death walk by every night as he lay there helpless were still on! It was not that the tigress had not noticed him. She was just saving the fresh one for later!
