Hi @Krlho

Unfortunately, no one knows which specific way or technique the tiger used to kill that huge bull gaur or the gaur's health condition. Judging by the video though, the killed bull gaur looked massive and healthy.

the male tiger in the video is “Mooga”, a very famous tiger from Bandipur that specialized in killing gaurs by using the “hamstring technique”. he died in 2021 after being gored by an elephant. he was also known for his territorial fights with other male tigers and believed to have killed 3 tigers in his conquest to rule over his territory.

Some interesting remarks from the report you posted.

The tiger 'Mooga' was known for hunting elephants and gaurs:

Bandipur tigers are relatively huge because they mostly hunt elephants and large gaurs:

RE: Tiger Predation - georgegram - 04-01-2023

Tiger predation on leopards are pretty uncommon. I asked a photographer about this, who have seen cases of tiger predation on leopards and he gave a very conclusive thought that is worth sharing:

so rather than killing leopards for food (predating), tigers kill them to decrease competition when there is a chance, sth that i wasn't aware of.
