RE: Tiger Predation - Pantherinae - 06-26-2014

Thank you all for shareing all these great images of tigers with impressive prey!

But I have one thing to say, i strongly doubt that tigers will kill adult rhinos and elephants.
Don't get all lion fanatic because I'm having a picture of a lion it could as well have been a tiger, leopard or a jaguar

It only seems so wierd because for first: a tiger lacks stamina to kill such a big pray, a male lion used 22 hr on a bull buffalo, and I know how thick the skinn is of a indian rhino is along with it's massive size!
Second: I have seen a whole lion pride been chased by a black rhino which is almost twice as small! And withe rhinos are absolutley out of limit for lions! So it seems so wierd that a cat only slightly bigger (atlest those i have seen in bandavgarh compared to those in Kruger) could kill a rhino alone! It makes no sense to me!
Thrid: if rhinos where huntetd by tigers i think the evelution would have made them different! A large heavy animal living in the open with lost of tall grass where the tiger could ambush them easyly and beeing so slow compared to the tigers! Look at other large prey killed by lions/tigers buffalos and gaur living in heards, and male buffalos living in smaller groups and defend each other. To mee it would strange!

Heres the thing. There are eye witnessed accounts, ranger accounts, rhino rehabilitation accounts, sanctuary accounts, and the list goes on.
You denying it, is the real question? You don't want us to think of you as a fanatic, but yet you say every single account or eye witness is a liar? Comparing a lion to a tiger in the hunting category is also pointless. Tigers are different animals, live completely different lifestyles and have adapted to what best suits it. Skull differences, terrain differences, morphological differences, etc....

Btw, I have yet to see a single account that shows a lone male lion killing a bull buffalo, but if you have something, I would love to see it.

And again a whole lion pride are capable of killing much bigger prey than a single tiger start beeing realistic. And why do I have to be a fanatic for not trust raports from rangers! have you sen the rhino ithe three male tigers in kaziranga eats?first time I did see those pictures one ranger said that it had been killed by a tiger, a feild vet said it was dead because of natural reasons probably age or lightning! also quite ignorant of you to say a lone male lion can't be compared to a male tiger.. they are almost the same either you like it or not! also i will try to find some pictures or videos of lions killing buffalo bulls! and you can find some of male tigers killing gaur? please again I'm no fanatic, you can't have an opinion without beeing a fanatic! to be honest i do actually like mayby leopards the most! but lions and tigers are more intersting to look at in pictures.

Could you go to ava forums or any where, and check out tiger predation on elephants and rhinos. Then could you present the ones you find? Present the ones your skeptical on?

You name one report and try to quote it as the onle and only rule.
Strange you don't show this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY4C_hxFNXE
Here you see a follow and attack a mother rhino and kill her cub. So its pretty obvious that tigers attack Rhino adults or babies. Any way, I still would like to see you present what you find and why your skeptical, if you're up for it?

Hi again, I've read all those, and it's not about the article's, but the lack of photo veiene! Maybe it's only me, but I nede photo veiene, and you can neiather never know about national geograpich much of their work is storby bord, and those injuries on the moter looks like bites from another rhino! And the thing is ( not taking anything away from the tiger they are the biggest and strongest cat) but a tiger could IMO never have done something like this, they are too small compared to the rhino. Even not the biggest bears could have killed them, tigers do as all Cat's have a poor stamina, even porer than those of the lions. Tigers they are long compared tho lions teeth's, and brekkstang more easily! And the rhino has the thickest skinny of all land mammas! Too me all this makes it almost impossible for a single cat to do this!

"bites from another rhino"
No offense, but this is a pointless debate. You're disregarding all acounts, photos, etc.. I have had this debate with people like that, it goes no where. At the end of the day, there are eye witness accounts, photographs, documents, etc... You obviously have a love for lions and seem to refuse to acknowledge a tigers hunting prowess.

"If tiger population in the park is increasing, prey base can not decline," said Tito Joseph from the wildlife protection society of India ( WPSI). The tiger sneaked into the rhino rehabilitation area to kill the 35-year-old female rhino Pavitri, brought to Dudhwa in 1984 under the rhino rehabilitation programme. This was the fifth attack since November last year on rhinos by tigers in Dudhwa. In the past one year, two rhinos have been killed by tigers and one has rescued by the park administration in Dudhwa. The feline attacks on rhinos aren't rare. But, in most of the incidents, it's the cubs which are killed.

Contrary to this, it was an adult female rhino killed this time. Is it the same tiger which is killing rhinos? Is the attacking feline old? Bibhav Taluqdar, who chairs International Union for Conservation of Nature Asian rhino specialist group, said Dudhwa authorities should try to find answers to such questions in case the attacks are rampant. "It's not rare that tigers kill and eat rhino. Rhino comes as an easy hunt for a tiger who can not chase a deer," he said
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/Rhinos-new-preys-for-Dudhwa-tigers/articleshow/18282354.cms

Just one of many that you are denying because why??

RE: Tiger Predation - Pckts - 06-27-2014

Btw there is absolutely no proof of who has better stamina between a lion or tiger.
In fact, Packer says lions will overheat and doubts any stamina difference. Hans Brick specifically makes mention to tigers having better stamina, but that is neither here nor there. Because stamina is dependent on need. A sprinter doesn't have better or worse stamina than a marathon runner, just different needs. Tigers are seen swimming extremely long distances which require much stamina, the have long drawn out battles for by themselves etc... It is definitely a pet peeve when peole try to claim stamina of a lion being better, when a lion sleeps more than any other cat, and the male lion is notoriously lazy and rarely participates in hunts compared to the females.

RE: Tiger Predation - Pantherinae - 06-28-2014

First it's not about lion vs tiger. Yeah i love lions, but I like tigers aswell working close up with these cats are wonderfull and I could never pic a favorite, please stop saying that :-) and i have said tigers are stronger. And thats a fact, do not deny anything I know.

let me tell you something indian rhinos do bite eachother very much, when males are full with testosterone they will bite other males and females not ready to mate while chasing them. That I have seen on a video clip one time.

The thing is I'm a frendly guy do not like to debate with anger or anything, but the thing is, and please try to understand: a lion pride is a massive force and a black rhino can chase the whole pride, and do not even look nervous around lions. A indian rhino is almost twice the size of a black rhino and are maybe even more aggressive. And do have an even thicker skinn, thats why it's so har to belive. Not by taking anything away from the tiger, even tho I don't think they can kill a rhino they are still an impressive carnivore and i admire their strength.

Also I have seen pictures of tigers and rhinos together in Kaziranga and the rhino dosen't even look at the tiger, you would never see that in a barazinga or sambar, they would not have taken their eyes of the tiger. There is also a clip of a young male tiger from Kaziranga trying to attack a water buffalo, but the buffalo is not easily scared and seems to have no problem against a young male, so for me it's very hard to see an adult tiger jump on an animal twice the size.

You may have an point on the stamina. I know lions do have bigger lungs and a bigger hart, than tigers on avarage, but you never know until youre sure.
