Kirkman's Kamp

Who is encroaching on who's territory? If nkhulus are encroaching and manages to oust gijimas from the south then sabi sands as a whole is in trouble except the north where the kambula boys are.

I think to keep a big coalition like the 6+1 nkhulus at bay is a strong 4+ coalition like the kambula boys

Nkhulu Territory, if you can say so, this match was good for Gijimas, now they will be on alert so as not to fall into a disadvantage knowing the number of their rivals

These 2 parties know each others numbers very well, they had encounters before and thru roars.

It’s strange the gijimas ran up I guess they thought the Nkhulus would run like last time but they turned the tables and chased them it was almost like a stalemate like you guy are supposed to run from us but they aren’t the same males as a few months ago

I have concerns with few Nkhulus, they look to have big health problems. Looks like they have that "black spots" on hips, limping/skinny disease symptoms, also recently are losing condition even more.

We knew that #6 and #5 have health problems, but looks like one of #3/#4 recently aswell showcasing same health problems.

Dreadlocks aswell.

So out of 7 males, only 3 looks to be healthy.

This might be huge blow for promising coalition.

This kinda reminds me of Tumbelas, who where also decimated by diseases early on.

So is it a lack of regular meal that has kick started the sickness in the younger males? dreadlocks got like this because of the avocas they beat him up and probably kick started TB? Basically every lion has TB and the same thing happened to blondie and S8 but he got hurt had open wounds and got sick quick

Idk, i dont think 7 males should struggle to eat regulary, especially as they are doing this for years, nomads from 2-3 yrs of age.

Also remember last year when they first time emerged in MalaMala as nomads, they looked in absolute peak condition.

They are also in the area where they have big rivers flowing, so there should be plenty of pray available.

I guess we will have to wait and see, but its concerning.

RE: Nkhulu males - Duco Ndona - 12-31-2023

Seven male lions is a lot of mouths to feed and lions dont share nicely. Especially once they grow more confident and dont feel as much of a need for safety in numbers anymore or are already also competing for mating rights.

While it is true that if all seven lions help in the hunt, they should have no issues bring down a kill. But once that happens the three strongest claim the kill, forcing the four to hunt again. Spending twice the amount of energy in the process for the same meal, and that is asuming that by the time they made their second kill. The other three dont steal it again.

At one point these weaker lions are going to realize that being in a large group is terrible and split off or risk starving. Which is probably why large coalitions are seldom seen and even rarer last.

Looks like male #3 is doing great, sometimes skinny but definitly one of the most impressive of them.
Male #4 concerns me, seen previous videos on him at KNP, he looked thinner than male #6.

Smudge seems the only one completely healthy.

First is Snip Tail and last one roaring is Smudge.

2nd in pursuit is prob either #3 or #4, and 3rd in pursuit, limping one  is prob #5, as #6 has blonde mane.
No, i didnt. Having troubles on connection so im staying a little bit off.
When i get somewhere more comfortable i'll try to ID the males in the video.
Idk if its either Smudge or Dreadlock the last one roaring.
Smudge is pretty impressive and his mane is almost as full as Dreadlock.

RE: Nkhulu males - Mapokser - 12-31-2023

While it is always sad seeing lions sick, it won't be only bad news if it turns out that only 3 Nkhulus are fully healthy ( it remains to be seen if this is the case ).

Kambulas pushing further north in SS. NK coalition apparently in Kruger, and now Nkhukus struggling with their condition... This would mean that the current generation of cubs in SS has a much better chance to make it, without the threat of large coalitions.

10 in the west, over 13 in Londolozi and Mala Mala, 2 in the south but many more to come with Styx and Talamatis having cubs...

If these cubs can make it, they'll boost the overall population a lot and rebuild the prides that are in need of numbers.

And the Nkhulu themselves can still be very successful, maybe even more, with fewer numbers, be it due to split or unfortunate diseases.

These two are the unhealthy brothers in the coalition, both looking thin for quite sometime now.
It is known that male #6 has an injury to his hip caused by a buffalo, i believe #4  is something similar.
