Well, I'm not African so i definitely won't know how to answer that more accurately than you!
However, I have seen the reserves calling them Nkuhlu as you say and also Nkhuhlu.
I'm really not sure which one is right but most of the Facebook posts i remember people mostly calling them Nkhulu
Some coalitions, like the Mapogo, had confusion when it came to writing their name, with some people writing it Mopogo.
But well, on the Latest Sightings - Kruger page, the posts I've seen indicate that the name of the pride that the 6 boys came from is called Nkhulu, but sometimes it is called Nkuhlu.

If necessary, i guess it would not be a problem for a moderator to change the thread name. But i don't know if it's necessary since both names seem right to me, but as i said, i don't have as much ability to talk about it as you do.

Quick ID on the 6 Nkhulu/Nkuhlu brothers
based on the numbering made by @Tr1x24

  • #1: Has a Smudge on his snout/nose - The most developed mane of the six brothers, but remains a blond male;
  • #2: Does not have the tip / fur of his tail - Very dark orange eyes, which match his grayish skin and dark mane;
  • #3: Slightly orange eyes, more amber in color - Well-developed mane and the third darkest among the six;
  • #4: The one with the least scars on the face, looking the most handsome - Slightly different facial expression, looking shy;
  • #5: The most different when it comes about his face, has his own beauty - The second darkest among the six;
  • #6: "Unhealthy" male, sometimes limping due to an injury to his hip caused by a buffalo - Has the least developed and blondest mane among the six;

Big On Wild, December 16
#1 aka Smudge

Kirkman's Kamp, December 16
"Witness the majestic Nkhuhlu male lion, a symbol of regal power, as he moves through his newly claimed territory, stamping his authority with every purposeful step.
In the untamed realm, dominance is asserted not just by roar, but by the confident stride of the new dominant male lions."

Mantimahle genes are taking over Sabi Sands. First the PCMs and now these guys. The issue is there are some of their half sisters in the Plains Camp pride, so its another instance of inbreeding. At least Drealocks has some fresh Stolsnek genes (i think he was assumed to be the missing Jock YM)

Did you id the males?

First is Snip Tail and last one roaring is Smudge.

2nd in pursuit is prob either #3 or #4, and 3rd in pursuit, limping one  is prob #5, as #6 has blonde mane.

RE: Nkhulu males - Ttimemarti - 12-30-2023

It’s not funny but you see darkmanes gijima stop well short and light maned gijima ran in and stopped like wait a minute then ran away. Not sure if snip tail had his head down and was sleeping but he started to run away then saw only 2 and basically chased them alone without hesitation after he realizd it was only two males until the others got up and ran with him but I think darkmane gijima got a sense of what he had stumbled upon (more evidence that lions can count)

Who is encroaching on who's territory? If nkhulus are encroaching and manages to oust gijimas from the south then sabi sands as a whole is in trouble except the north where the kambula boys are.

I think to keep a big coalition like the 6+1 nkhulus at bay is a strong 4+ coalition like the kambula boys
