Current status of lion prides - Potato - 01-21-2023
I though it would be a good idea if we would make separate topic, constantly updated for to keep on current numbers and status different prides has. In that we would share informations on changes in numbers within the prides. Kinda a bit similar thread to "map of sabi sands coalitions and prides: thread.
Starting of:
Prides of Thornybush:
Monwana (also known as "Northern") pride:
5 adult females
4 subadult males sired by Xikukutsu and Mapoza male, born February-March 2021
4 subadult females sired by Xikukutsu and Mapoza male, born February-March 2021
2 subadult males sired by Mapoza male born in March 2022
1 subadult female sired by Mapoza male born in March 2022
Dominant male: lone Mapoza male
Guernsey breakaway pride:
3 adult females
x cubs sired by Black Dam males, born in early 2023
Dominant males: 4 Black Dam males
Avoca pride:
Data on pride is only aproximately because updates on this pride through past year were very scarse

Dominant males: 4 Black Dam males
Of course similar lists for Manyelati, Timabavati and Sabi Sands prides should follow done by either me or some other forum member(s) (of course every input is most welcome). Also if there is some mistake on either list then share your own informations in order to fix every wrong info that might or already may have happened on some list.

- Mapoza male, lone male, origins unknown, birth date unknown (approximately mid 2012)
- Black Dam males, coalition of 4 males, born into Black Dam pride around October 2017, sired by the lone Giraffe male
- Xikukutsu males, coalition of 2 males, born into Avoca pride in December 2015, sired by either Ross males or Avoca/Giraffe coalition
Male lions and coalitions of Timbavati:
- Nharhu male, lone male, born into River pride Klaserie, sired by the old River pride males, birth date unknown (approximately mid-late 2014)
- Vuyela males, coalition of 5 males, origins unknown, birth date unknown (approximately early 2016)
- Lone Hercules male, born into Hercules pride around very early 2015, sired by the Trilogy males
- Ross males, coalition of 2 males, born in Ross pride in December 2010, sired by the old Ross males

I appreciate the information you have provided.
Some thoughts.
A forum thread does not seem to be a very readable form to keep track of the status of different prides, when there is more and more updates.
What 'standard' features to choose?
- dominant males
- number of adult females
- number of subadult females
- number of subadult males
- number of cubs (also sexes?)
... What about ages, genealogy of pride members etc?
How to classify breakaway groups?
For some regions, maybe this might be easier for leopards.
But it would be great to have some kind of the 'Lion Encyclopedia'
(p.s. sorry about size/type of the font, can't make it uniform...)
